The Piano-A truly awe-inspiring experience. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Definitely in my top 5.
Mulholland Drive- To be honest, I didn't like it as much at first, but I liked started to like it more and more as I thought about it, like some kind of benevolent tumor.
Requiem For A Dream-A horrifying experience that you will most likely never experience again. I couldn't blink.
The Nightmare Before Christmas-Do I really NEED to explain?
Pulp Fiction-The ultimate in CoOoOoOL cinema!!! Not likely to be matched ever again.
City Of Lost Children-An truly unique movie from France. Bizarre.
12 Monkeys-A bizarro Terry Gilliam movie. 'Nuff said.
Opinions????

Oooh I forgot Moulin Rouge. Ironic considering I was singing a song from it at the time. (Elephant Love Medley. *sigh*)

Totally agree... the concept is so weird you just have to watch it and see what the hell it's about.
Memento is definitely another one... One of the few movies that actually shocked me with all its twists...

Watching it again tonight, I realized just how bizarre, unique and really cool Earth Girls Are Easy is.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai is pretty damned unique. Try explaining it to someone and see how they look at you...

Sorry, but FARGO was not a true story. Just like the Blair Witch wasn't a true story and Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn't a true story. If you watch till the end of the credits there is a disclaimer stating that it is fictious.
PI is a freaking mind trip and a half. Definately original.
Bad Taste is really out there.
THE GOONIES!! honestly what other movies are like this one?

Anything by Spike Jonze (and this includes Jackass and 3 Kings) and Charlie Kaufman.

Anything by Stanley Kubrick

You'd think that but infact the Coens admitted on several occassions that they made it all up.
Before they started filming William H Macy asked the Coens if he could see the original case file to study the crime. The Coens told him not to bother. Macy said he'd like to look at it all the same. THe Coens told him it wasn't necessary. Macy insisted that he see the film for purposes of character when the Coens told him that it was all a figment of their unusally odd imaginations.

I'd say Kubrick was the king of making unique films..not only were they unique from the mainstream, but they were totally different FROM EACH OTHER.

Definitely true. Those criteria also apply to Terry Gilliam's films.
