Julia Stiles in The Prince and the Freshman

Paramount Pictures and Lions Gate Films have teamed to co-produce The Prince and the Freshman a romantic comedy to star Julia Stiles. Martha Coolidge will direct, with production to begin in March.

Written by Katherine Fugate (Carolina), the project is the story of a female student at a Midwestern university who has the dubious fortune to fall in love with a European prince who is spending the semester incognito.

Discussions with Susan Sarandon are also under way who would portray the prince's mother.

Paramount will release the film in North America, with Lions Gate Intl. handling foreign distribution.

I'll definitely see it. It sounds like a decent flick and I love Stiles.

Hmmm, what's this you say? Another tedious teen romantic comedy? And again with Julia Stiles, you say? And there's an inane and nonsensical plot is there? And for some unknowable reason, Lions Gate Films, the only respectable studio producing movies in this day and age, is whoring it's name out to this snooze-fest?

I don't know quite what to say. Pardon me while I put a bullet in my temple.

Okay, fine, I admit, it's too early to judge a movie so harshly, but come on, what the hell kind of plot is that? A European prince? And can Julia Stiles please play something, anything, other than a high school student?

...but who the hell cares! The movie's gonna blow anyway!
