Firstly, you HAVE to rent the original.
Your life depends on it. *brandishing knife*
~~It seems that part two is REALLY well liked around here. I thought it was crap.
Crap: Starring Dennis Hopper.
Part three is really the only TCM sequal I can stomach.
~Either way, what kind of asshole would Want to make a sequal to that?
If it aint broke.....

I like Part 2, even though it`s TOTALLY different than the original. Kinda like how "Evil Dead 2" was really goofy and comical but the first one wasn`t.
I actually hated Part 3! I just found it dull and 80`s-ized.

And for the record, The Time sucked.

Hmm. I liked it as well, Sure it sucks horribly when Juxtapositioned or compared to the first TCM, but I found it enjoyable on its own.

i agree with everyone else if you try to compare it to the original it pales in comparison. i've always liked tcm 2 more than most people probably because of dennis hopper who always gives great performances.
tcm-10/10
tcm 2-7/10

It's a great film if you're of the mindset not to take it too seriously. Any movie with dueling chainsaws and Sonny Bono wigs is sure to be a classic.
Although I do have a question. How was it Leatherface was able to rub his saw up Stretch's leg? That would burn the hell out of her wouldn't it?
I guess I'm just putting too much thought into this.

People either totally LOVE this or totally HATE it. Me, I'm all about love man. The two cannot be compared. Hell, if Raimi was able to get away with Evil Dead 2, why couldn't Hooper get away with this? Who says you HAVE to stay with the formula??
What I love about this sequel is it doesn't take itself seriously. It is totally exploitative in nature and goofy and unrealistic. And to me, it works. It put Bill Moseley on the map, too. If you try to compare in terms of scares to the original, you are only going to get frustrated.

Chainsaw 2 certainly had its moments. The beginning car chase was intense but it didnt seem like the rest of the movie lived up to that. Leatherface and Chop-Top in the radio station was pretty intense...Leatherface simulating sex with the DJ is priceless!! i dig this flick but the end was a tad weak. nothing can ever compare to the first.
TCM 15/10
TCM2 6/10
TCM3 4/10 (the trailer ruled!)
TCM4 -10/10

Ha I like both Sequels.. Cool. This flick actually had some good scenes in it, and overall was enjoyable. I agree with haddonfield though The ending sucks and is very abrupt, barring that it comes recommended.

The only way a sequel to TCM would possibly work is if it didn't try to top the original in terms of tension, atmosphere, and unfiltered mayhem. That is an impossible feat to accomplish. So, Hooper went for the polar opposite; a fun, campy excursion into the charming world of senseless gore. This is the best sequel the series has to offer. It entertains thoroughly and embraces the merriment that dueling chainsaws can bring.

I'm one of the ones that love TCM 2 as much as the original; probably because I saw that one first.
Part one is the best.
Part 2 is great.
Part 3 is cool.
Part 4 (what the hell is this shit?)

The original TCM is the best of the four...but that doesn't count for much, considering I didn't terribly enjoy it much in the first place. Slow at spots, but I liked its brutal psychological horror.
TCM 2, 3, and 4, on the other hand, for lack of a better term, sucked ass. Not scary, not atmospheric, just loud and purposeless.
My ratings for the series:
TCM - ** 1/2
TCM 2 - * 1/2
Leatherface: TCM III - * 1/2
TCM: The Next Generation - ** (been a while, so probably * 1/2 now)

I just finished watching it. If you're willing to accept it on it's own terms, it's a pretty decent sequel, though the first act is a bit tedious. It picks up pretty fast once Leatherface shows up, and like the original, doesn't let up. I have to agree the ending is a bit abrupt though. Besides, how can you dismiss any movie with Dennis Hopper?
TCM = 8/10
TCM 2 = 6/10

TCM 2 was a bigtime letdown, and i was so shocked that dennis hopper was in it while watching it...made it even worse to know he would do something that bad.

I enjoyed TCM2 a lot...TCM3 was a victim of the MPAA, plus I really hated the ending **SPOILER** Benny surviving the pit? what the fuck??? **SPOILER**
I actually haven't seen part 4 yet...
I also liked the ultra-rare Texas Chainsaw Massacre: A Family Portrait documentary (I got it at a Fango convention for $20 several years ago)

Wait one second... did Benny survive the pit? NOOOOO, he got it with the chainsaw. But audiences didn't like the original ending, so they brought Benny back. AS much as I love Ken Foree, it ruined what little continuity was left.
AS for TCM 2, I loved the fun, gory thrill ride it gave me, since you can't dupocate the unfathomable terror of 1. But Dennis Hopper was hammy on purpose, and some other aspects were exaggerated. The best moment was Drayton getting it up the ass with Hopper's chainsaw.
Everyone was game in TCM 2 and you can tell.

I recall that someone made a topic on this board about TCM 2 with the ending having some sort of ghost in the background. If somebody happens to find this topic could you bump it up for me? I bought the movie recently and would like to reread that topic. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

that "ghost" thing someone mentioned is during the very last frame of the movie, when the heroine is stamding there waving the chainsaw around. Right before the end credits start, you see this weird billious smoke rise up all at once behind her.

TCM 2 is definitely a love it or hate it movie. I'm part of the later group. This movie really has nothing enjoyable in it, for me anyways. It's a shame too cause I love the first TCM and I even enjoyed the underated part 3 and the decent part 4(I guess you could call it my guilty pleasure).
TCM - ****
TCM 2 - * 1/2
Leatherface: TCM 3 - ***
TCM: The Next Generation - ** 1/2

mjg 15,
I found TCM 4 the funniest, and I could have bust a gut when Renee plays with Vilmer's leg control remote.
It is on par with Lefty's chainsaw duel.

I know...I remember the Fango articles (geez, can ya tell by my posts I was (and still am sort of) a Fango Kid? http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif)) about it...I remember a room part at the Fango convention in LA when Jeff Burr came up and was grilled about Chainsaw 3 and complained of the MPAA involvement as well as studio involvement that made it far from what he really wanted to do with it). On a positive note, it had Laaz Rockit on the soundtrack and you can't beat some good old fashioned speed metal...

Even though it wasn't a complete comedy like part 2 the times there is comedy in part 4 are hilarious like The leg brace bit you mentioned and the scene where Darla hits Heather with the stick. Unlike part 2 the comedy in part 4 works!

Part three did suffer from the MPAA hacking and slashing, belive me, as a TCM fan i want to see William Butler being sliced and diced (since he was so lousy as Tom the NotLD remake, payback is a bitch)
But in TCM 2, the homour was forced upon us.Some worked but ChopTop's incessant Namland and nubbin' lovin was not funny. Dennia Hopper knew how to work the comedy, and Caroline Williams was game to do a lot of physical stuff.
As for TCM 4, I think they were going for a terrifying/comdey thing, but with Matthew "freebasing before every scene, why the hel is there a vacuum tube stuck to my leg" MCCau...(whatever his name is)eating the scenery, and Leatherface dressing up as a ten dollar whore, and that Rothman guy (huh) THEY ENDED UP WITH A BIG JOKE. There was no handle on that shoot, and there is no plot, whereas TCM 2 had one.
I can't believe I wrote the last sentence.

I didn't like TCM2 very much the first time watching it. TCM is probably my favorite Horror movie and I just expected so much out of #2. A few weeks ago I sat down and gave it another chance and I finally realized that it is nothing like #1...and so I can't really compare it to #1. I applaud Hooper for doing something different with that one. I dug it a lot my second viewing...a lot of parts are kind of cheesy, but I think Hooper might of been aiming for that. You gotta love the chainsaw fight with Leatherface and Hopper. A Classic! Ha, it actually sort of reminded me of the lightsaber battles in the Star Wars films. #2 also lived up to what TCM1 was falsely labeled as being. A sick, sick film. Some parts were very disturbing to watch, and there was plenty of gore in this one. All in all, a good sequel...and a good movie.
TCM1 - 10/10
TCM2 - 8/10

All of the sequels just sucked...But TCM 2 was the best of them, but the first one is without a doubt the best!
