I just re-watched the original and in an early scene Tina comments that maybe an earthquake is coming. Connection between this and the tremors in New Nightmare?

Well probably not since the two movies are many years apart

I think you're actually right, cenobite.
Seeing as New Nightmare pays many homages to the original NOES, the earthquake could be another one. After all, "they say strange things happen when an earthquake's coming", and so the earthquake at the start of New Nightmare is a bad omen, as fans of the series will be able to notice before others.

The earthquake thing might actually be a connection.I do think that A Nightmare on Elm Street and WC's New Nightmare are 2 of the smartest flicks ever made,And it all came from one mind,What a fucking genius.

That's a good catch, cenobite, but I think I remember Craven saying in the DVD audio commentary for "New Nightmare" that he got the idea for earthquakes because there happened to be a glut of them in California while he was writing the script. Or maybe it was the other way around -- he wrote the script and then by creepy coincedence earthquakes hit while the picture was filming. Anybody with a better memory than me got the DVD?

Checked out the commentary on "New Nightmare" and Craven says the earthquakes were part of the script, then, during filming, real earthquakes struck southern California. As a resident of California he thought earthquakes were a good symbol of the "instability of the fabric of life."
There is actual footage of the after-effects of the Northridge quake in the film, however.

Craven's commentaries for both "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "New Nightmare" are both excellent.

The one with the special features is probably the new ones that came out when that boxset came out last year.I've seen A Nightmare on Elm street on those new dvds and Cravens commentaries were cool but I like mostly just watching the movie and the talking distracts me more then anything.
