Hilarious episode! The more recent episodes haven't been released on DVD, though. A shame. The last two seasons were the funniest, in my eyes.

Do you remember the song that Crow sang during the last episode. Not the going to earth song, but the song that he made up to go along with the theme music to Danger Diabolik?
The car would be driving with the "duh na na na" music going, and Crow was singing things like "I drive my car to the store, and someone takes my space..."

well, i couldn't resist replying simply because of the name of the person who started the thread, but i enjoy any opportunity to profess my love of mst3k. god bless rhino for putting them out, but guys get a move on! i've watched them all ten times already, let's get some new product out there! i'm a joel fan myself - mike's great and all, but i hold a special place in my heart for joel. i remember when i was in 6th or 7th grade (i'm a lunatic, i know) i'd get done with my homework just in time to watch the "mst3k hour" on comedy central with mike hosting dressed up as an old man. anybody else remember that? good times...

I didn't actually start watching MST3K until it transferred over to Sci-Fi. The episodes from the Joel era that I've seen haven't really struck my fancy. The humor just wasn't as sharp or witty. Manos is a comical offering, though.

countchocula, i agree that joel and mike have different styles. joel was more of a laid-back goofball, while mike was more snarky and revved up. but mike's humor was in there even before he donned the jumpsuit - he was a writer on the show during joel's years as well. also, if you like "manos: the hands of fate" (go torgo!), you should check out "the pod people."

I have been eyeing The Pod People. Besides Manos, the only Joel episode I own is The Gunslinger, which even with MST3K's commentary, is a dreadful viewing experience.

countchocula, i'm not sure if i've seen "the gunslinger" (probably have, but i just don't remember), but "the pod people" is one of my favorite episodes ever. i mean, the movie is a classic in so-bad-it's-funny cinema. the fx are laughable, there's two seemingly unconnected plots thrown in together, it was most likely completely dubbed (a la "manos"), and the images shown over the opening and ending credits have fuck all do to with the anything in the movie. i could go on and on, but suffice to say that i find the commentary hilarious (granted, just because i find it funny doesn't mean anybody else will) and well worth the price of the video. my favorite joke? don't worry, i'm not spoiling anything 'cause it won't make any sense unless you see it. "and his last word was 'huzzah!'"

If all you guys have seen of MST3K is the Rhino releases and Sci-Fi stuff then you guys havent even scratched the surface! Time Of The Apes, Girl In Lovers Lane, The Painted Hills, Santa Claus Conquers The Martians, and The Day The Earth Froze are HILARIOUS Joel episodes. I prefer Joel too, he adds atmosphere for some reason. Mike brought the show a little closer to earth for some reason, Joel's satellite was hovering on the outer rim around Pluto while Mike was orbiting the moon :) There are SO many great epsodes and I love being able to watch my 120 episode (and counting!) collection of classic MST3K tv any time I want! Manos is #1!

i'm glad there's somebody else out there who prefers joel too, 7 Zark 7. do you remember (heck you probably have it on tape) an episode where they watched an "adventures of sinbad"-type movie? damn, that was hilarious. i remember comedy central showed it many moons ago during a thanksgiving day mst3k marathon, and me and a friend sneaked away from the hubub at the house to watch it, and we were rolling on the floor. *sigh* back in the day... "the canary exploded!" "let me know when you find a tune." also, remember "the tv wheel," that experimental thing joel did after mst3k? it was on for like one or two episodes. it was actually pretty funny if i remember corretly.

Gretchen, I can't quite place the ep you're talking about...could be The Magic Sword or any of the Hercules eps. I've never watched the "Tv Wheel" either but I've heard about it. Would've loved to have caught it on tv. I own all these episodes on cdr's. There's a server on E-Donkey that has all episodes minus the Rhino and BB ones. They even have the local primitive UHF KTMA episodes too. In some very early ones, Servo is unpainted and sounds like Kermit the frog and Gypsy is a mesh gold robot and sounds like she has a bad cold. Good stuff! I love this show!! Oh, I'll put a plug in for Pod People too. One of the best!
