beeblebrox has it right..."The French Connection" has the best car-chase scene in history.

If you want a comedy element in your car chases, watch "The Blues Brothers". Half of the Illinois State Police going after Jake and Elwood...funny stuff.

I don't know if this counts, but the car (speeder) chase in "Star Wars: Episode II - Attack Of The Clones"

BTW, this thread should be in the Best/Worst forum.

Before this gets moved to the Best/Worst forum, I'll throw in my vote for...

To Live and Die in L.A.

It puts The French Connection's car chase to shame. It was done by the same guy, though.

Amen! And some CPD cops too...

That, is one of the best in history. Most copcars trashed too.

Some very cool car chases in recent films include the chase in THE BOURNE IDENTITY and the beginning car chase in THE TRANSPORTER.

I haven't seen The French Connection or Bullitt, but I loved the chases in Ronin.

I feel Ronin's car chase(s) went on TOO long, and weren't excitingly shot. I got bored.

I like the one in The Rock. :D

(But, seriously, put one more vote down for The French Connection.)

(Though, I DO like the one in The Rock still. Don't get me wrong...)

That's easy.

1. French Connection
2. Bullitt

Everything else is below them, IMHO.

Just look at my name, it is the greatest chase of all time. The French Connection's chase is very over-rated.

Have you seen To Live and Die in L.A.? The chase was choreographed by the same guy as The French Connection, but was longer, and much more intense.

Yeah I saw the movie...I didn't mind it, but no it didn't stand out in my mind. I saw it this last summer, and I'm not convinced that it's held up well over time. I dunno, no car chases really seem to STICK in my head as great over a long period of time like those two movies. *shrug* That's my opinion.

I would agree completely. Friedkin actually delivered an even better car chase the second time around. But as a whole, To Live and Die in LA is just a so-so movie. Much inferior than The French Connection. And that is why that car chase is often overlooked.

As was already mentioned, Bullitt's 12 minute chase scene through the streets of San Francisco is by far the best.
