View Full Version : Personal Life of Celebs....

Does anyone hate it when people seem more interested in the personal lives of celebrities than they are with people they have actually met?
Or even worse - How often do you think that someone knows more about Phobe, Ross, Rachel, and Joey than they do about their best friend in high school, or the person who delivers their mail?
Depersonalize much?
(now, I too enjoy looking at the actions of characters and celebs in order to examine moral, social, and ethical issues -- but really, some people take it MUCH further than that.)

Man, that is messed up that people know more about celebrities or characters than people they personally know. Can't say I know anybody personally like that though. I believe it though in the shallow society that we live. For the most part it seems that a common stranger will not give a rat's ass about someone unless they have been killed, raped or molested, ripped off or robbed big time, or sickly ill. Oh yeah, if you are a woman they might care if you have been beaten up. But, other than those conditions, nobody will give a rat's ass about you in this society. Generally speaking of course.
This brings to mind an old episode of "Beverly Hills 90210." The one where that dorky guy, Scott, happened to shoot himself by accident. Then everyone all starts to feel sorry for David (Scott's friend). Up until this point nobody gave a shit about Scott and David. So throughout the episode David is quite annoyed how everyone is "trying to act like his best friend," as he put it. Then at the climax it blew when he was sick of the article of tribute for Scott. Saying it doesn't matter how you treat him now, it matters how you treated him when he was alive. I think that pretty much sums up the subject and good theme of what became a regulary trashy, prime time soap opera series.
Back to your original subject, I totally believe they are people like that in our shallow society. My mom hardly watches tv and movies and yet she still reads "People" magazine to read up on the latest celebrity gossip. A talk show host had a subject why do people care about the latest celebrity gossip. Like who cares if Jennifer Lopez is seeing Ben Afleck and what they did in about a week. Doesn't affect me in any way. I gotta admit some of the celebrtiy news that does get reported sounds pretty trivial and beneath me. For example, when Angelina Jolie dropped Voight from her legal name, I really didn't care. Just so long as she doesn't change her name to commit a crime I really don't care what she changes it to. She can change it to Angelic Buxon Jolie and that won't change the fact that her movies aren't that good and that she doesn't look that good as a blond. I know she is at odds with her dad, but I still really don't care. That is between them. Studly horror buff out.
I've not spoken to any of my high school friends for a couple of years. I couldn't tell you what race or sex my postman is (the lazy person comes after I've left for work).
Real people just talk crap anyway, and are at least as phoney as celebs, who are far more interesting. I'd rather know what David Fincher takes in his tea than what some chimp thinks of the clothes or sport or other nonsense.
I'm not dying, so nobody listens to me; so why should I listen to them? Balls, balls, balls. Gimme imdb.com bullplop over mindless chit-chat any day :)

But when you die, your DJ friend will play the G-n-R version of Knocking On Heavens Door over the high school P.A.

to take a different spin on it, it seems as if the news, at least here in the states, reports just as much on celebrities as it does on "world news"... i get more world news from national public radio in 30 mins. than i do with all of the different news casts during the day.
back to your original point though... it does seem a bit odd to me that people will take television characters more serious than real people.
I believe that to some people think that TV and Movies are there only friend...You were never there for me were you mother....I had to learn the facts of life from watching The Facts of Life......Dont you see...someone has to kill the babysitter.

i somewhat agree with you....but sometimes i like to hear people and what they are like, but sometimes they aren't as open. seeing someone on conan and being funny and telling funny stories about their childhood can be a little more open then the people i know. you know?

I can not stand celebrity worship, I see people have T-shirts, posters, websites devoted to one person who has exceptional talent. If I met Robert Deniro, my favorite actor, I would not get all emotional and start crying saying that he's the equivelant of god(like some do). I might commend him for making good films, especially Raging Bull and Taxi Driver. That's it.
And on the news they talk about Whitney Houston and some other chick who did drugs before. WHO THE FUCK CARES?? Do they think that they're better than us and it's a tragedy that they did drugs? They shit and put their pants on one leg at a time, just like the rest of us.

Thank you, i saw the piece where she was interviewed on tv and it made me sick. People saying "ohh its ok, we all love you, you deserve your kid" when in REAL LIFE the kid wouldve been placed in a foster home, and she would be in jail. Thats why i like that song, "Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous"
