Why does everyone say this is such a bad film? I loved it! (I know I'm probably gonna get lynched for sayin that but what the hey) I know it's not as good as Silence of the Lambs but how many films are?!
I'd like to hear anyone else's veiws on the film if you would be so kind :D

HANNIBAL rocks my world too, dude.
I thought all the criticism it got was totally unfounded. I mean, yeah, there were little things here and there that weren't perfect, but overall, Scott did a phenomenal job.
For the most part, I think a lot of people didn't like it because it wasn't like SILENCE. Well, T.S...I compare SILENCE and HANNIBAL to ALIEN and ALIENS: two amazing films, one high on suspense, the other high on action. It's hard to compare them, but they're both great.

Hannibal is to The Silence of the Lambs what TCM2 is to TCM. Both are worthwhile films, but for different reasons. Hannibal is campy, stylish, and of course, bloody. I enjoyed it immensely, but I can see why some despise it.

I didn't like it because I thought it was very, very boring. I couldn't wait for the damn movie to be over. Not too mention that the story was way too far-fetched for me. At least it wasn't as bad as the book though.

I thought Hannibal kicked ass and this sequel confirmed how smart Hannibal really was.Hannibal is the most wanted man in the world and he's avoided the police for ten yrs,In my books that makes you pretty fucking smart.Silence of the Lambs was better but don't count Hannibal out because your comparing Hannibal to an oscar winning movie and thats just not fair.

I don't hate "Hannibal" but I thought it was a woefully missed opportunity. The novel was such a scathing criticism of society that the movie could have really broke some ground. My problem with the movie was all the empty and heavily distracting stylistic excesses on display. Ridley Scott, who has directed some of my favorite movies (one in particular, if you'll glance to the left), just goes frickin looney tunes here, and throws in all these extra flourishes that add nothing at all to the narrative.
Also, the changed ending makes the entire opening sequence utterly pointless. In fact, it makes the entire first twenty minutes pointless.
On the other hand, those killer superpigs were about the scariest thing I've seen in years.

Thought it was decent. The biggest problem was the screenplay that never made the movie suspenseful and made Lecter into a standup comedian.

sorry, i thought hannibal was BAD BAD BAD....i don't even think it comes close to silence of the lambs or red dragon. i mean, the BEST FREAKIN PART of both the movies is when hannibal is talking to the police. and he does that for like ten seconds in hannibal. and it was just sick and gross (and not in a good way - i usually love bloody gutsy movies).....i just thought it was awful. i am glad i saw it for free!!

That's a painting by Michael Whelan for the cover of Del Rey's paperback edition of H.P. Lovecraft's "The Lurking Fear."

Where'd you find it? The only place I've seen the whole painting is in Whelan's portfolio "Works of Wonder." I'd love to get ahold of the print.

It's actually two prints that make up the whole scene. I got 'em from his website and it was the VERY LAST ONE. I'm sure some will surface if you look hard enough, though...
Anyhow, back OT...I'm surprised some of you hated HANNIBAL but liked RED DRAGON. I disliked RD quite a bit. I thought it was poorly cast and it lacked a certain gloom that it's predecessors had. I mean, I like Norton, but I didn't see him as Graham. I also like Harvey Keitel, but didn't like him as Crawford either. Emily Watson and Philip Seymour Hoffman were great choices, but not enough. I won't be adding that one to my collection.

I loved HANNIBAL as well. Although nowhere near THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS for quality, this movie can be enjoyed as a psychologial/slasher/cannibal hybrid. Lush cinematography, an awesome score and a great cast highlight this sequel.

That opera song they play as Hannibal "sets up shop" halfway through the picture really stuck with me.

Not only do I like Hannibal, I like it a lot. It's very close to Silence for me. The thing that keeps it from being equal is the relative lack of interplay between Starling and Lecter. As I've written here before, the movie's called Hannibal, not Clarice. It's meant to showcase Lecter Unbound, and it does that very well.
I thought Julianne did a superb job in a difficult situation. Playing a complex character, deeply identified in the public mind with another actor. She succeded briliantly, IMHO.
All in all, a terrific film.

I thought that the film had a better ending than the book - I didn't really think the book's ending was very plausable.
Although I must say that the book had a far better insight on Hannibal's dinner party.

I have yet to read the book. I did enjoy the movie though. I thought it was kinda long but it was worth the while.

Counting Red Dragon, I thought Hannibal was the best of the entire trilogy.
I really like a well thought out movie with methodical killers who are wise.
Ironic though that I love zombie movies, isn't it?
