Has anyone read Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time?
Do you think it should be made into a movie?
I think the story is quite good and can be up there w/ LOTR if put in the right hands.

Well, on the surface I'd say yes, since THE WHEEL OF TIME is the best fantasy series to come out of the US in the last twenty years. But it's not realistic. The tenth book in the series is scheduled for release in January, and there's really no end in sight. Can you imagine any studio greenlighting a series of ten plus films, all of which would have to clock in at at least three hours, all of which would require a cast of thousands of extras and nearly a hundred central characters (no, I'm not exaggerating, this story is huge), dozens of different on sight shoots, and enough CGI and make-up effects (got to make those Trollocs look good) to bankrupt ILM? It's a fun idea, but it'll never happen, it's just not realistic. The most you could hope for is that THE EYE OF THE WORLD be produced as a single film on it's own, and even that might be a hard sell, since once on flick was out there the book's fans would be clamoring for sequels.

Ideally it would be possible once the series finished.... but the script would have to be changed so much that it would be Wheel of Time in name only. There would be a third as many forsaken maybe, none would ever get ressurected, there would be no Seanchan, probably no Egwene, among countless other parts. I'm happy with the books. :)

I would love to see it made into a movie...but is my belief that each book in the series would take like 2 very long movies at least to play out...so I don't think it would do very well as a movie unfortunately...that'd be 20 movies (at least)!...
While I'd love to see some famous people in it, it might just work as a series...

There's no way to even try to sumon up the story for u but it is pretty much like LOTR. Four villagers leave thier home to go on a quest to save the world. If it sounds cliche it really isn't. If anyone can help me out feel free.

Ya they will never make these books into movies, simply because Jordan hasn't decided to stop writing.
If he had stopped at three or four then there may have been a possibility but now the story is just too long and involved.
I loved the books but have not read any in a long while as it takes so freaking long for the next in the series to come out!
And as for the plot simply think LOTR type universe fantasy, classic friends on a quest, with a heavy sprinkling of "Choosen One" thrown in and of course good vs evil.
WOT and LOTR and very similar but if LOTR's had been 10 books it never would have been made either.
It is a great read but I suggest waiting until Jordan decides to finish the story before you start.
Out............................................... ...

Well, I'll do my best to sum up the basis of the story. Basically it is based in a world that is on the balance between good and evil. Millions of years ago there was a man called the Dragon who was basically the avatar of goodness, the leader of the people. The Dragon was a master of the Source, a sort of "force" or magic that had a male and female half. He was in constant battle with the epitome of evil, the god Shai'tan. Shai'tan caused the Dragon to go insane, who proceeded to reshape the world in his insanity with the Source and kill himself. The story takes place millions of years later and focuses on three innocent farmers, Rand Al'Thor, Mat Cauthon and Perrin Aybara, who have a great destiny before them and the land's final battle with Shai'tan.
Make sense? Probably not. :D

man that doesnt even scratch the surface besides mentioning only 3 of the main characters!

No, it shouldn't.
It's too long, the story is extended and new characters are introduced JUST to milk out more books for better book sales, and because of this it wouldn't tranlsate into an understandable, NOT-FANS-OF-THE-BOOK movie for the uneducated viewers.
If there are people out there who thought Dune was an unsatisfactory, insurmountable task, then they shouldn't even THINK of making Wheel of Time a movie!
Maybe a TV series for a couple seasons or something. THAT might work. But then the production value would go to shit and the finished product would have a 98% chance at utter faliure due to an inability to make the whole world of Jordan's books come to life convincingly.
