Well, if you've checked the news section today you've undoubtedly seen that good old Mike Sampson is once again the bearer of bad tidings, as MGM is apparently greenlighting another Rocky sequel. I, for one, don't know whether to laugh, cry, or go on a homicidal rampage. You'd think the studios would have learned after DRIVEN, Stallone just doesn't have it as a screenwriter anymore. In fact, if you ask me, he hasn't had it since the original ROCKY. It doesn't help that this is pretty much a carbon copy plot of past ROCKY sequels.

Hell, maybe it'll be a good movie...hopefully better than ROCKY V, that's all I ask for. :D

I could go for a sequel as long as it doesn't suck like part V. Anything has to be better than that sorry excuse for an end to the franchise.

This is my final comment on the Rocky series. It'll be five too many after this sequel is made. The first one was a 7/10, then 5/10, then 4/10, and the rest flatlined at 2/10. The series should be dead and buried, and I am scared someone is reviving it.

I agree but i would like to see it have a decent final movie and if there was a way to make something better than 5, i say go for it. However almost every actor you try to bring back is going to be a bit dated. Stalone should not be rocky, however it wouldnt be the same so i say no to the idea

Stallone needs a big hit quick, to keep his career alive a little longer. Rocky is just a chance to go back to the well one more time.
Rocky is one of the most profitable sagas in history. Part II was the first sequel to out do its predecessor. Part II was the first to outdo a sequel, and part four out did that. Part V was the only flop. Rockly is big $$ when it works.

I also dont think a Rocky movie fits very well in these times, it was more meant for the 80s era where we saw a lot of darker films and the breakfest clubs. If they were to make one now it would look all cgi and crap like most attempts at sequels for long horror movie series

like i said in the other rocky thread, this is THE biggest mistake they will make...

I don't think it will be a mistake, as long as they don't have Rocky fight. If he were to maybe teach someone else, (like one of the previous films) then it could work. They should have Mr. T come back too! :)

Well, if its a good script & they say that its going to be in the tradition of the orignal....But that burning question why suddenly a sequel? And if so, why did it take that long?!?!

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

*pisses pants from excitement*

OMG! This REEKS of awesomeness! I don't care what the Razzie people say, or what other nay sayers say. This RULES!

First the Rocky video game, now this. I am to happy for words. This has made my day.

For those of you who do not know, I am like the biggest Rocky fan you will ever meet. So this is a dream come true for me. I can't wait. [Course, I've been waiting for 12 years, so I guess I can wait.]

But I have been hearing rumors about this for three years now. And now, it's finally true. Awesome, awesome, awesome!

Wow.....first Hulk Hogan returns to the WWE, now my other childhood hero is coming back.

I have been hearing rumors about "Rocky 6" for three years now, and all I keep hearing is that MGM won't put down the big bucks to make it. So they have finally decided to give Sly the money to make it? Awesome.

Really, MGM said before that they won't give Stallone the money until he can prove he is still a big movie draw. But really, "Rocky" and "Rambo" are what made Stallone famous. By letting him make another "Rocky" movie and maybe even another "Rambo," he will be a draw again and bring in the cash, since those are timeless characters and have always been very popular.

But even if this movie does bomb, I think it will do well for the first few weeks since I am sure many people will see it for nostalgic purposes.

And being a blind Rocky fan, I know I will love it.

A whole new generation of kids and teens will get to meet the "Rocky Balboa" character for the first time. About time they see what a real hero is all about I say.

I am curious to see how an older Rocky Balboa character interacts with people and what he thinks of this the about to be 2003 world since the character has always been old-school, even in the 70's.

Shoot, if they can make a trillion sequels to the "Halloween" movies and the "Friday the 13th" movies, and the "Star War" movies....why not another sequel to "Rocky"? It's not like that franchise wasn't as big as those other flicks.

Really, I think the new era of movie making has just gone down badly. Which is why new characters and movies cannot be created. Because they suck compared to the classics. So therefore, the vets have no choice but to bring back the legends. Heck, they were a draw once, why can't they now?

Seriously folks, give "Rocky 6" a chance before you judge it. Stallone admits "Rocky V" was bad [even though I liked it]....so I think he will try very hard this time to please the fans.

I think Stallone realizes that this was a blessing from God here and he will not take it for granted. Just like he had only one chance with the first "Rocky" movie to make it into the big time, this is his only chance to be re-born again and make a big comeback with "Rocky VI".

I have no doubt that some people will dislike it, and some won't even give it a chance. But I think we are all in for a big surprise here.

Anyway, I can't wait for it to come out. I'll be there when it opens, and I will see it ten freakin' times probably. :)

The Itallion Stallion, Rocky Balboaaaaaaa is back!

Very good point. I didn't think about that.

If Rocky played the role of Mickey, then there is a possibility that the movie may be interesting. The "teaching" angle was what was attempted in Rocky 5.

Because of the failed attempt to teach Tommy, my guess is that Rocky will not be open to training anyone else. I think he would only make himself vulnerable for one person...his son.

The only problem is that there are so many creative constraints. This is because the film has to fit the mold/backstory from all the other Rocky films.

If written properly, its possible that it could be very intriguing. The story can hit a new angle -- a father/son angle. In the meantime, Rocky would have his own inner conflicts because of his feelings of inadequacy. Using that, I think that it is easy to make a film that is as good as the original. If I were to write the film, I would sprinkle realism into it.

If I were to write the film, I would have training sequences that parallel the ones in the other film. Then I would have one fight in the final act. In that fight, I would make it so that Rocky's son loses horribly. Rocky then acts by throwing in the towel. Its an act that has lots of depth.

It works on the level of the story because it has a father caring for his son. It works for the Rocky series because it would give Rocky a fresh twist...afterall...not everyone could be Heavyweight Champion of the World.

They had it on Inside Edition tonight in the Hollywood News, the plot sounds exactly the same as Rocky 5, Rocky gets called out of Retirement for one more round.

Harrison Ford is doing a fourth "Indiana Jones" film, Bruce Willis may do another "Die Hard," and Mel Gibson is going to do another "Mad Max." And don't forget that Arn is doing a "T-3." So Stallone doing another "Rocky" or even another "Rambo" is not all that shocking. I totally support it since I am a big fan of both "Rocky" and Rambo", but especially "Rocky".

Rocky 6 will be awesome. How can you people hate 5? One of the best ones. He might die at end? He was supposed to die in end of 5 but Stallone rewrote script and decided to make Rocky live. But something tells me that Rocky will make a mistake coming back for 1 more fight just like Hogan and Michael Jordan did and DIE. Ending will have Adrianne being nararator saying Rocky's spirits will always live at his graveyard and credits will come up.

PS: I gave away my left testicle for this movie.

Part V was the only flop....doesn't that tell you something?

The Rocky idea's old and used and they aren't going to do anything that they haven;t done before.
It won't give Sly a late carear boost...it'll bury him alive.

He should try something else, something less...out of date.

This is the best news I've heard in a long time. Rocky movies are all enjoyable to me. It's not that unusual to think that an older boxer would come out of retirement to fight again, just look at George Foreman boxing in his 50's. I can't wait for this movie.
