Has anyone seen this movie. I've read various different opinions of this movie over the years ranging from "piece of shit" to "amateurish but intelligent and gory as hell". I noticed recently that it's actually available on video from Amazon in the UK. I have two questions. Is the movie worth buying (I like zombie movies)? Secondly...does anyone know if it's been butchered by the BBFC in the UK?

This is a pretty culty movie so I wouldn't be surprised if none of you schmoes have seen it and this thread makes it's way off page one faster than a zombie chasing some delicious braaaaaiiiins.

Oh...and btw...who else thinks that Shatter Dead is a pretty cool (if incomprehensible) title for a zombie movie? Why is it called this? Does the title make sense in the context of the movie?

I saw this movie a few years ago and I liked it, but in a way was a little dissapointed.

Let me try and answer your questions but to do so will require...

*************** SPOLIERS ********************

1)Is it worth buying? - I'm sometimes hesitant to answer either way about movies because to each there own. You say you like zombie movies, well do you like all sorts of "zombies", what I mean is do you like the NOTLD style, or the ROTLD style, or maybe the Fulci dirt head style zombie. Why you ask, well (here comes the major spoiler) the zombies in Shatter Dead can not be killed i.e. the bullet to the head leaves them will a friggin hole in the head and they still walk around.

I kind of hated this at first, I'm a big fan of shoot em in the head style zombie. To me Shatter Dead is another "Thinking" zombie movie much like Dellamorte Dellamore. The zombies in this movie are just another social problem, it is just spreading faster, there are also zombie factions that feel everyone should be equal(undead) and go about speeding the process up.

Yes the movie did suffer from low production values but it also had some good moments and wild ass gore. I can expand on some more of the movie points if you'd like....

2) I do not have any idead what the BBFC did to the UK version, sorry

I also loved the two tag lines from the movie:

GOD HATES YOU!

There's no more room in heaven, either.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Appreciate it. I like all kinds of Zombie movies. I'm a fan of Romero, Fulci, Argento and really like ROTLD and ROTLD3 (less said about the first sequel the better). I think i'm gonna give it a go. I'll check on Ebay and see if I can dig up a second hand copy on the cheap. I'll post a proper review after i've seen it. Thanks again.

And yeah...those tag lines are cool.

Wow, I was wondering when someone was going to bring this up!! I first read about it years ago and thought some of the pictures looked interesting. Never got to see it or run into ANYONE who has.
Thank you for the info.
Psycho-let me know if you find it and what you think of it.
I gotta start being more aggressive in posting threads about not-so-known movies. I always think no one would have seen them 'cause they seem too "small" or "wierd."

Hmmm. After a quick look on the official BBFC website i've found out that Shatter Dead was trimmed by 26 seconds by our illustrious house of censorious bastards. No details about what was cut...but having read a bit about the movie there are two scenes i'm certain contain imagery they would find contentious.

************ Minor Spoiler ***************

Two scenes come to mind that may have been cut:

1) Birthing scene near the middle of the movie.

2) Sex scene at the end.

Both of which are probably worth the price of admission.

Yup. Those are the two scenes I reckoned might have caused problems.

One of the most pathetic and god awful films to come out of the independent horror scene in a long time.

I've read so many positive things about this dreck,so i bought the dvd(on it's way to the landfill now),and i was dumbfounded by how inept it was.

If you've read some of my other posts, you'll see i love cheeky low budget horror, but this was just terrible all around. It has no redeeming qualities, the story is idiotic, the gore is only average, the acting does'nt even work as comedy, music sounds like it's MIDI,and the zombie action was a real letdown.

One of the worst i've ever seen, trust me,but if you must see it,don't say i did'nt warn you.Does'nt bode well for the director's other efforts, just pure garbage.

Hey, I'm another fan of Shatter Dead. I started a duplicate topic and didn't know this one was here. I personally think the movie is really good; not kick-ass like Dawn or Day or Return of, but still deserving of props for creating a cool new kind of zombie, if nothing else.
