so I"m at the "Chiller Theatre" convention a month or two back and I pick up a copie of Fulci's Zombie, only it says "Zombie 2" on the cover.
Now I find this curious because I'm well aware that this film was only called "Zombie 2" in Europe.
So I ask the geezer behind the table if this is the PAL version (European version) and this asshole gets all condescending on me and goes "ya...that's Zombie one of the greatest italian horror films ever made...blah blah blah"
And I'm like...ya thanks asshole, I own the DVD, but it wasn't called "Zombie 2" in America. So I tryed to explain this to him, but he just stared at me like he was trying to remember where he left his metamucil.
Anyways, I was right wasn't I, was there any copies called "Zombie 2" in America? I really think that's impossible, what do you guys think???

Mojo67821, i don't have an answer to your question (although you sound like you know what you're talking about) but your post reminded me of how much i hate condescending geeks. i've tried to get into comic books and anime before, but i'm always held back by these idiots who work at the stores who deem it below them to talk to me because i hadn't seen "akira" until a month ago or actually liked the x-men movie. is it because i'm a girl or are they like that with everybody?
(btw, i said i hate condescending geeks, not geeks. i'm a geek after all, goddammit.)

I actually saw a copy of Zombie 2 at Blockbuster recently but I didn't bother to ask about it. I just thought that it was interesting that they made a part two. I haven't seen it though...

Welcome fellow geek:D . Don't worry, I never saw Akira, AND I enjoyed the X-Men movie. As far as I'm concerned, Anime is like any other genre. Just 'cause you haven't seen what someone else considers the "Classics" doesn't mean you don't like the genre. While I'm a big fan of DBZ, I also enjoy other lesser known anime like Trigun and Lupine III. It's kinda like horror, I didn't like Psycho, but I loved The Burning and There's Nothing Out There. People have no right to be condesending just 'cause you don't like what they do. I'm getting flashbacks to Freddy's Dead: The Final(?) Nightmare, where Spencer is traped in the video game and the video dad's are going: "Be like me. Be like me." Anywho, I've ranted long enough. Just ignore the idiots who don't respect your opinion.

I know how you can get back at this guy! Tell him, "if you were a movie, Leonard Maltin would give you a rating of BOMB...and so would I for that matter!"

Kaos, thanks for the input. i know those people are stupid, but there's only so much i can learn from the internet, so i eventually have to talk to people to have knowledge and unfortunately some of them can be jerky. but there are nice ones too. i was at a troma event here in l.a. and this guy gave lloyd kaufman a tape of takashi miike's "dead or alive," which lloyd then gave to me (ow, my foot...i must be dropping names) and the guy spent awhile briefing me on asian cinema and he wasn't condescending in the least. nice geeks forever!

It's always good to find someone who's willing to help you learn about a subject rather than look down their nose at you. I've always had fun introducing new people to the horror and anime genre. They don't always like the movies, but sometimes you get someone to overcome their prejudices and they end up enjoying themselves.
BTW try Epsom Salts to help your brused feet.:D

Thank you Lord Crumb
I think some of the other Schmoes misunderstood my post
I understand the whole issue with the naming of Zombie and the European versions, I just thought it odd that this guy was telling me that it wasn't the Eurpoean version.
And when I tryed to explain to him the whole deal about the different names he looked at me like I was retarded, although I know that I am right. So it made me really mad that's all.
Maybe I should have bought it, it might be a collectors item some day.
Oh, and Gretchen_Ross, I understand you're sentiments on "condescending geeks", they do exist and they're hard to handle. Personally, although I'm a geek at heart, there are few people who know that about me. So when I'm around most of my friends and stuff I try to at least give off a vibe of normalcy. I think my family and girlfriend are the only people who really understand the true depths of my "geekdom".
But my point is because I try not to be labeled a "geek", it really makes me uncomfortable to engage in conversations with what I will dub "flaming geeks" who feel the need to drop their "knowledge" on you while all the time trying to make you feel bad for not wasting all your time in your parents basement watching Anime...but I digress.
My point is that this guy didn't even understand what I was trying to tell him about the alternate namings. He obviously had no idea about any of it, but to hide his ignorance tried making me feel stupid.

Mojo67821, "flaming geek" is a great term for those people. pat yourself on the back for that one. :-)

What I hate even more is people that not only think you don't know anything about the subject, but try to make a quick buck at the same time.
I asked a guy in a second hand video shop if he had Poltergeist, and he said "no, but this is a good horror that's pretty similar, and it's really rare", and he handed me SUSPIRIA! Suspiria's fucking nothing like it! And he was trying to charge me £20 for it, despite the rest of his movies (Zombie Flesh Eaters, etc) being about £3.
Which brings me neatly onto the Zombie thing. As far as I know, here's the definitive guide.
US - Zombie
UK - Zombie Flesh Eaters
AKA - Zombi 2
UK - Zombie Flesh Eaters 2
AKA - Zombi 3
US - Zombie 4: After Death
UK - Zombie Flesh Eaters 3
AKA - Oltre La Morte
