ID this horror movie

I seem to remember this one about a big purple creature that invades a home. In one scene, he keeps eating all the furniture and stuff, including a light bulb. I saw it on TV a long time ago, and have no idea who was in it or anything. What movie is this?

This was a part of Amazing Stories, I have this one of tape. It's called The Greibble, directed by Joe Dante and starring Hayley Mills.
