I didn't think it was possible for people to kick as much ass as this guy but he pulled it off. I really think he is a great actor. The man just generally kicks ass at life. What do you guys thinks about him?

He was great in AMERICAN PSYCHO and in SHAFT, but in REIGN OF FIRE he was rather underused and it was a lame movie overall. I have some hopes for EQUILIBRIUM, but I'll wait to read the reviews. I'm not a huge fan of Taye Diggs...
I think he'll never have a role better than the American Psycho role...

If you're gonna look at reviews than get them off of here. The critics are panning the movie but the regular guy seems to like it.
p.s.-Ebert and Co. suck

I think he peaked in his debut. It will be hard for him to top his performance, or to ever appear in a better film than Empire of the Sun.
Shame, really.

I think he really has a great career ahead of him, if he plays his cards right. He had a great start in Empire of the Sun...and has become almost a cult figure because of Newsies (search for fanpages on the net...it's everywhere) and American Psycho. He has shown us that he can play even the most mediocre of roles brilliantly...
...now he just has to prove that he has the eye for scripts that he needs to really have a lasting effect on the industry. Laurel Canyon looks as though it could be terrible or really wonderful...with Francis McDormand and Christian...I'm praying it'll be wonderful.
Hopefully we'll see more of the guy in more movies...and hopefully more *good* movies, at that.

Funny you should say that, I was just thinking the same thing. When I first saw "American Psycho" I never realised I was watching the young kid who totally stole the show in "Empire of the Sun". But I still have high hopes for Mr. Bale; he's proved himself in at least two films. He could have better things up his sleeve yet.

For me, when I saw AP (9/10), I had no idea I was watching the young kid who also stole the show in Newsies (7/10) .
Getting back to the subject, he's one of the few great British actors who's not afraid to get away from all those dramatic Shakespeare-type roles and do something different every once in a while, and that's a feet in itself (I.E.- Equilbrium, American Psycho, Shaft, Metroland).

He's a very talented actor, but the way things are going, he needs another hit fast.

i have been a christian bale fan for a long time....since empire of the sun. he is wonderful. and the fact that he sang and danced in newsies and then was a psycho killer in american psycho and pulled both of them off wonderfully, well, that puts him in the book of great actors imo....
he is sexy as heck toohttp://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid42/p12d2052646086b20850b9d603f4e8c5b/fcef5812.jpg

his performance in american psycho is among the best that i've ever seen. i didn't like reign of fire at all, but bale made it watchable. the man is truly a wonder to watch on screen.

I think he's been in a few bad movies but the only reason I never left the theater was cause of him. He really is a great actor. I think that's why I didn't walk out on Reign of Fire. Plus, he's incredibly versatile.

...he's also the King of New York. :p
Seriously folks, as I've been thinking about it...this guy has a great future if he chooses the right parts. Perhaps show his diversity a bit more. A bit less Bateman...who knows...perhaps Batman?

For some reason I don't believe him. I think he looks great, but has a certain niche he must fit in. I can't seem to get behind his characters as anything but that - a character.

You guys are forgetting how great he was only a couple of years later (than Empire of the Sun) in Kenneth Brannagh's Henry V in his small role. He was great.
I also loved him in SWINGERS a highly underrated movie in my opinion, and of course LITTLE WOMEN where he clinched the 'sex factor' as Laurie. I have been reading that book since I was 8 and I never thought there could be anyone that could give that role a masculine appeal. Enter Christian!

Just out of curiosity, has Christian Bale ever HAD a hit? I really don't think he has. Most of his films have done ok at best. American Psycho DIED (no pun intended) at the box office.

American Psycho is a HUGE cult hit among a lot of people. Just because it did shitty at the box office doesn't mean people haven't seen it. Funny you mention it cause I'm going to my friends house tonight for a movie party and that is the featured movie. Kick ass...

The reason I said that is because 'hit' has always been a money term in my book. There is no doubt that Bale has a huge following. I believe it was recently pointed out that he may have the largest internet fan base of any other actor. But the fact still remains that none of his movies make much money and I just wonder whether he'll ever be recognized as the talent he is by the industry.

Do you mean Swing Kids? That movie slightly scares me...Robert Sean Leonard should simply *not* dance. That's the long and short of it.
He really did do a great job in Little Women...he managed to pull off the delicate balance between lovely, manly bloke and sweet, kind-hearted friend.

Well, if he gets to play Batman, like everybody wants including him, that'll make him a huge star and he'll get more recognition.

He looks very cool in Equilibrium. I;ve only actually seen him in Reign of Fire (6/10 - cool dragons). I want to see American Psycho after reading the book and A Midsummer Night's Dream is the next movie I'm renting.

After watching many of his movies,. I think he resmebles a young James Fox (ISADORA, PERFORMANCE). That is not a bad thing.
Christian can two step, swing a mean American accent and get his kits off in a movie while still maintaining respectability (METROLAND, VELVET GOLDMINE).
iN DEFENSE OF reign of fire, i think he put a lot of energy into a role that could have easily been played as awful. Yes, it is a B-movie, and yes it has cliches, but thank God certain actors choose to take the situation seriously.
Quinn is a great character due to Christian Bale, and his lovely chest!

I can't believe I've never posted here before. I think Bale has great range and talent. He can come off as a good guy with honor and integrity or...well, an American psycho. He's a looker to many, he has versatility beyond his pretty boy image. EMPIRE OF THE SUN was a nice start for him as a lad; and I think he will prove himself worthy of the cape and cowl this summer. Time will tell, but in the meantime, I give him a YAY!

I saw him in Little Women, Royal Deceit and Captain Corelli's Mandolin and wasn't that impressed, but got interested with him in Laurel Canyon and he blew me away with his acting in the Machinist and hear he's fantastic in Batman Begins.

From the good (Batman Begins, American Psycho), The bad (Reign of Fire, All the Little Animals), to the excellent (The Machinist, Equilibrium), Bale has consistantly proved an excellent actor for me showing his intelligence, skill, and refusal to be marketed as another over-exposed Brad Pitt.
