View Full Version : Ewan McGregor

Ewan McGregor is one of the most rising popular actors around at this point, and my question is: what do you think of him? Some say he is decent, but is consistently playing the optimistic character, even within a group of Heroin addicts, kidnapping or bird watching. Others say that his roles are so different (Heroin addict to James Joyce to Jedi), that no one can deny his diversity.
What do you guys think?

(I honestly cannot imagine anyone saying he is not, at least, good looking).

Fabulously talented, emminently watchable and posessed of a ton of charisma. He's also absolutely and totally fearless, which is something that I admire highly in an actor. He's the current Malcom McDowell (and that is about as high a piece of praise as I am capable.)
He's also quite a handsome fellow, in that rough-edged Euro-way.
I like him.

Saying this actor is versatile would be the understatement of the year. From deep, emotional acting in TRAINSPOTTING to athletic action sequences in STAR WARS to singing in MOULIN ROUGUE, this man can just about do it all.
He's only gonna get better folks.

He's talented, versatile, sharp-looking and overall a great screen presence. Too bad he delivered some disappointing acting work (STAR WARS I & II, BLACK HAWK DOWN) aside from brilliant appearances in the likes of SHALLOW GRAVE and MOULIN ROUGE!

This is pretty much what I would've said, just with tamer adjectives and more errors in my spelling.
He is one of my favorite current actors, and I'm looking forward to each picture he puts out. And the bastard can sing too, which he already proved in the oddball A Life Less Ordinary and of course Moulin Rouge, one of my favorite movies of all time. This guy rocks.

Ewan McGregor is the man! He's just a very diverse and talented actor, he does remind me of Malcolm McDowell except he's cuter and better looking. He can pull anything off even if they're bad (Star Wars Episode I), I will be expecting him to win some academy awards in the future. God, who does not like Ewan? I can not think of ANYONE who doesn't like him (which is a good thing:) ).

In my opinion he put in a great performance in "Black Hawk Down." Actually, I can't remember a single performance he gave that I was disappointed by. Great actor and he'll only be getting better.

a long time ago before trainspotting came out, i found this picture of ewan from trainspotting that was in the newspaper. i was adorky teenager, so i cut the picture out and i put it in my wallet (i think its still in there, but i use a different wallet now) and everytime a friend of mine would see the picture, they would go "HE'S UGLY"...it was funny....now they all think he's awesome and a hottie.
i don't know why i cared to share this tale, but i thought it was humurous.
i think ewan mcgregor is wonderful. i lvoed him in trainspotting, and a lot of his films have amazed me. i didn't like star wars episode 1, but i liked him. and i loved him in episode 2. moulin rouge, black hawk down etc....he is a great actor.

Ok...well...now that everyone has responded, I can too. I adore Ewan McGregor and all of his movies that I have seen. I really had no idea who he was until I saw Moulin Rouge! and decided it was pretty important that I see all of his movies, fast. So within the time of about a month or so, I saw about 9 of his movies, and still remained rather obsessed with him.
He is talented, diverse, easy to watch, easy to relate to and incredible handsome (whether pounds too thin in Trainspotting or clad in Jedi cloaks) (and...yes...he can sing too). He is easily one of the best actors in his age group, and seemingly one of the nicest guys in the industry.
He's intelligent, has a handle on life, has firm beliefs (made a wonderful polar bear documentary for PBS and seems to write letters *all* the time), and lives his life in a very "Unhollywood" way (in everything from his general movie choices to refusing to have his kids put in magazines). He's willing to do almost anything in a movie (as we have seen) and he's not stopping at Star Wars, but pushing his work and his roles further, seeing what he can do.
What can I say? I love the guy. :D

I dig the man. He's good lookin' and handsome (yes, I am a man...and one hot one, too ;) ), and he's one of the best young actors today. He's capable of doing so many different things, and he does (STAR WARS, TRAINSPOTTING, MOULIN ROUGE, BLACK HAWK DOWN), and besides he looks like a smart and nice guy. I say it again: I dig the guy!

he is without a doubt my favorite actor right now. he has so much talent, and he always seems to choose the roles that he's most suited for. he has a real future.

I love Ewan McGregor. I haven't ever seen him do anything he shouldnt be proud of. Even if the movie itself isnt the best, he still does a fine job. His gutteral imitation of Alec Guiness's accent in the Star Wars prequels is admirable and his singing and acting in Moulin Rouge was amazing.
His performance (albeit disturbing) in Trainspotting was phenomenal as well. I really think he'll be the next Harrison Ford. Around for a LONG time and with several oscar noms.

one thing about ewan mcgregor....i have never heard anyone say anything bad about him. that doesn't make me love his any more or any less, but its just something i noticed. he is a great actor, and most everyone knows who he is. and he also isn't out there, with the press, donig all this interview stuff.....he keeps himself out of the spotlight from what i have noticed, and i like that! he just seems to know what he wants, how to get it, and what to stay away from. i agree with him being the next harrison ford. he is wonderful. he'd make any movie watchable. even if the movie is bad, i'd watch it if he was in it cause i know he'll always have a great role. i have loved him since trainspotting and i am sure i will like him for a while....
and another thing i noticed. he's one of those actors who everyone knows, but doesn't have to be the star in every movie he is in. like black hawk down. i like that. like i said, he doesn't NEED to be in the spotlight....and he's always seems to have a friendly face on.
maybe i should stop while i can.....ha ha ;)

Unforgettable smile (and those yellow teeth) = Swoon
Kidding aside, I haven't seen him in Trainspotting yet but I did see him in Black Hawk Down, Moulin Rouge, and Star Wars and you can't help but think man, he's EVERYWHERE!
He's awesome in every role he ever conquered whether it be small, forgetable roles to stepping up to the spotlight.
Love Love Love his accents. I'm a sucker for european accents. ;)

Ewan McGregor is a great actor and he has been a great actor. I feel that he is over looked by hollywood at times. He was great in Moulin Rouge and in Trainspotting he probably gave one of the greatest preformances ever. he played that role perfectly. I cant even justify the greatness of his performance with my words. But he is not being challenged he is not getting roles that other actors are getting that are half as talented as him are getting. Once he starts to get better roles on a more consitent bases people will truely see how gifted he is.
happy OUT here

He should have been nominated for Moulin Rouge last year, along with Nicole.

he was so good in trainspotting, not just acting-wise, but that guy has guts... male actors who do the full monty are pretty courageous, but i won't bore into that because there was three pages of the before... however, i still think that mcdowell, circa 'a clockwork orange', is one of the hottest, most attractive guys out there... of course, he's changed, to say the least. ;) still ewan is one hot tamale, and would probably have to be on my top 5 male actors now.... anyway, i always had this subconcious realization of their similarities, i never realized it til now... i just hope ewan keeps doing what he's doing, because he is so talented.

I've stated my opinion on Ewan a year ago and that is still my opinion on him now. Extremely versatile and talented actor, he can do no wrong in my book. Acting = 10/10. In the looks department he's just so cute. Not a "pretty boy" like Leo Dicaprio or Brad Pitt, but he's got his own unique looks. That innocent smile and those beautiful blue eyes make Ewan a very attractive man. So, enough said. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! FUCKIN' YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! :D

Ewan McGregor is one of the hardest working, more impressive actors out there today. He constantly turns in brilliant perfromances, whether it be the dark edge of Trainspotting or the romantic poetry of Moulin Rouge. Black Hawk Down, Star Wars, and Down With Love all continue to show off his range in cinematic roles. He's also one of the nicer actors out there. And now I like me women, but if he isn't one damn fine looking man.

A few years ago in London I worked with a woman who went to drama school with Ewan. I asked her what he was like in their classes. She said he was excellent, very good and friendly to work with, and even then in those early days you could tell this guy was going to go big places in his career.
I think he's supremely talented and versatile. Annie, I hope you've had the chance to see "Trainspotting" by now; easily one of his best performances. (I'll write you another recommendation for your Mum, if you like - it's not that violent.) "Brassed Off" is another good one, but the plot's a tad bland.

Yes! I SHUDDER to think that Tom Cruise gets a nom for Jerry Maguire, and McGregor in a stunning International debut gets diddly. Shit, if you ask me.
Don't get me started on Moulin Rouge...Denzel indeed...
Not to mention his great supporting performance in Shallow Grave...
the man has oodles of talent...can't wait to see Young Adam and Big Fish...
I'm a bit biased because I think he is phenomenal in STAR WARS I and II. He also pretty much carried the ball in MOULIN ROUGE (IMO). He was great in A LIFE LESS ORDINARY, TRAINSPOTTING, and just about everything else he does. Big YAY from me.
On a side note, I'm told he had to turn down an important role to be in the STAR WARS series...the role of Thomas "Neo" Anderson in THE MATRIX.

I believe that he turned down the role for many reasons, that being one of them. I rather wish he had not done either, staying in smaller budget pictures with the occasional Moulin Rouge! and Black Hawk Down. But, I suppose everything happens for a reason...
