View Full Version : how did they create the most shocking death scene (IRREVERSIBLE)

Still can't get out of my mind that sickening gory death scene at the beginning of the french movie "Irreversible".
Of course I mean the head bashing scene with the fire extinguisher.
Along with disgust came the wonder of how did they obtain such a great effect. Obiouvsly the head must be a dummie's one, but u can see it moving after the first strickes with the extinguisher, and it doesn't look fake at all.
Did they create some fake mechanical head that reproduces face expression (like Savini's on Day of the dead")?
I really hope some expert among u will give some interesting suggestion.
And I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to see that dark sick movie, craftly made, visually stunning, but ..hey...that was a little too much.

They had a latex doll and they used mapping and morphing over it. In other words, CGI.

Incredible scene and movie BTW. Terribly disturbing, but amazing camera angles and very well shot. If only horrormovies had the same impact as this film does...
