Hey,

I really want to track down a movie I watched when I was a kid ..

It must have been the 1980 - 1992 .. around then.

I can remember a movie about a group of people who are the only survivors on earth after some strange event (not sure which).

Anyways all these people managed to survive - however they did so because they were on the brink of death - comitting suicide or involved in some accident.

I know this is very vague, but can anyone remember this one?

Please help ...

Thanks ...

I don't understand that highlighted statement, do you mean they all committed suicide or were in an accident AFTER surviving the event? http://www.joblo.com/ubb/confused.gif

Anyway, two I can think of off the top of my head:

Night of the Comet This was an 80's movie where a comet passes the earth and turns most ppl to dust, and many of the survivors into mutants. Tho their are some normal (immune) survivors as well.It was made in the early 80's. Ummm...Robert Beltran, the guy who played in Star Trek Voyager was in it...and the lovely Catherine Mary Stewart as well. The mutant scientists round them up and try to find the secret of their "immunization".

Another cantidate Where Have All the People Gone[b] A made for tv movie in 1974 , tho you could have easily caught it in a TV run in the 80's....Peter Graves stars and it's the same scenario, solar flares this time, and it turns most ppl to dust and there are few survivors. No mutants tho, just a story of survival. But all the animals become crazy and one of the memorable things is the survivors keep finding the deads clothes with powderized remains in them...

Some other cantidates but much older films, that still you could have caught on TV, cuz they are considered classics are

[b]On the Beach (Gregory Peck, Fred Astair ,Anthony Perkins) about nuclear war survivors....alot of it takes place on a submarine if that helps.

Five Another nuclear war survival tale....only 5 ppl survive....and I have yet to see it, even tho tons of ppl keep telling me I MUST....this was made in the 50's....

There are others of that type, but I'll leave it there for now http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif

Dang, after looking at that IMDB link for Quiet Earth, looks like another one I need to seek out.

Why the hell are all my bolds messed up????

it doesn't sound like Night of the Comet, but that was a kick ass movie. Sorry i can't help, but nothing comes to mind.

Yup, it's THE QUIET EARTH. An excellent little New Zealand science fiction film with a final shot that lingers long in the memory... http://www.joblo.com/ubb/eek.gif

"The Quiet Earth" was great. Haven`t seen that one in years. And yes, the final shot is magnificent.
