Last night I popped in my The Masque of the Red Death/Premature Burial double feature dvd to watch The Masque... I have not read the Poe story nor have I seen the movie before. Well, I decided to watch the trailer before watching the movie, it seemed like a natural thing to do... well in the trailer THEY GIVE A WAY A MAJOR PLOT TWIST OF THE END!! What the fuck were they thinking?

Ouch! Thanks for the warning. I've been thinking of picking this double feature up. I have read Poe's Masque before, but I don't exactly remember how it concludes, which is a very good thing.

-Poe's Masque is a very very short (two page) story which reads more like a script treatment than a proper story.
The film developed the incredibly brief story marvellously.

-Trailers usually give away plot twists, which is why I make a rule of NEVER watching a trailer DIRECTLY before watching a film. It's best to be on the safe side.
A week or so before is okay but never directly before.

They usually don't spoil something like this. I'm not talking about something like the trailer for Jason X spoiling the fact that there's an uber-jason.

Part of this movie is a mystery about something, and they reveal the answer to that something very obviously in the trailer. Granted, I probably could have guessed it anyway, but still knowing it before I even watch the movie diminishes its effect; because even if I guessed it, I still wouldn't know for sure if I was right or not.

I never watch the trailer or any "making-of" docs prior to watching something I haven't seen. I always watch 'em after.

I try and avoid trailers too, because too many times there are things in there that you just don't want to know! Horror film trailers tend to be the worst because they try and get you excited with the death scenes, which almost always mean they show you the circumstances either leading up to the kills, or worse, the actual kills themselves!

Once I've seen a film. though, it's intersting to see exactly what they did include - for all the same reasons as above! I just watched Suspiria for the first time in years on DVD, then viewed the trailer, which true to form gave too much away!

Oh well, the choice is there, I guess - I just choose to defer my trailer watching until after the film!

Have you guys seen the F13th part 1 and 2 trailers? They give away all the buildups, and part 2 even shows that Jason does wear a pillowcase when he breaks his hand through the window!
