Anybody seen this french film? Looks very stylish, and despite already ordering it, I'm looking for opinions.

Haven't seen it yet, but from what I heard it's the first film ever to have been recorded digitally.

I found it passably entertaining. It got a veritable bitch-slappin' from the UK press but I had already seen the movie by then so was able to form my own opinion without the risk of being swayed by the critics. The movie is often guilty of overegging the visual pudding and it is a very unusual looking movie. You will either be put off by it's reliance on visuals over coherent storytelling or will do as I did and just go with the flow. I won't be watching it again but I don't feel I wasted the time I spent watching it once. Let me know what you think when you see it.

I LOVE that movie and everything in it!

In fact: I think that the french begin to show hollywood how to make really good movies! ;)

PSYCHOCANDY is right about the over-stylized visuals of the whole movie: makes it look very unreal...but I dug it a lot because it's just my kind of visual-art.

The story I thought was great to and I would never have guessed the plot-twist that comes at the end (made me feel the same way as the ending of BOOK OF SHADOWS).

What makes VIDOCQ great, is the combination of thriller-, horror-, action- and martial-arts-elements: IMO it works in a great kind of way.
On the downside, I didn't buy Gerard Depardieu having such fights... :p

Oh: and the killer's mask is just AWESOME!

Vidocq is excellent!

I love the visual style of this movie. It's done very well. It has a beautiful, artistic "french look" to it like City of Lost Children or Brotherhood of the Wolf.
I am 100 times more impressed with this style of visual storytelling than the Matrix (snore).

Vidocq held my interest as a crime mystery, in fact I actually did some research after watching the film and it turns out Vidocq was a real forensics scientist way back when....without the mad fighting skills I'd imagine.
The fight scenes were really cool...and the mask...the mask is awesome.
