The Howling produced in 1981,directed by joe dante, was one of the best ,scariest Werewolf movies of all time.
Now why did the follow-ups have to suck so bad.

some theories I have:
Joe Dante left....his vision combined horror and comedy and di it well and had good performances...
the others were bad scripts that felt rushed and they were mostly made by guys who got bored of directing music videos and needed something to pump up their resume, so latched onto a horror film whose series they didn't give shit one about....that seems to ruin a lot of great series...when the director doesn't give a shit about the original or FANS of the original, it becomes galring......

also, they KNOW the Howling sequels are straight to video fare, so they don't give a shit about quality..the latest installments of Friday The 13th, Nightareon Elm Street, Halloween, etc. are at least assured of a small theatrical release, so the director tries harder to present a better quality product....this is just a theory of course........

Part 3 was about kangaroo werewolves. Pretty terrible. I like part 5. Every time someone dies, that dramatic opera music hit!

I actaully liked all of the howling sequels, somewhat. theyre not as terrible as people say, except for howling 7 which is one of the all time worsts, and no, im not kidding, watching that movie is torture, and somehow, i made it through it.

Howling 10/10
#2 : 3/10
#3 : 4/10
#4 : 3/10
#5 : 0/10
#6 : 4/10
#7 : 0/10
Howling 2 has it all,no budget,WW's that resemble apes,Chris Lee sluming, and it was filmed in the dark so the actors could not see the shit they had signed on to do.
Sybal Danning is the only highlight in HG2.
Howling 3 at least tried to have a sense of humor about itself. But the Werewolves sucked ass.
Part 4 was really a remake of the 1st one.But nothing happens. Steve Johnson did a fine WW job in HG4 that cannot overcome a bad script.
Look for Michael(Pretender)Wiess slumming it.
In howling 5 nothing happens,we get no WW,and just a bunch of really bad actors in a castle.
In HG6 Bruce Payne made a good Vampire, the fx were better, and some decent actors.
But this is like comparing a hotdog to Sirloin.
New moon Rising???
How about Bad moon instead. This made me want to throw up.I was looking for MST 3000 to buy it .
