On Friday, June 25, 1982, John Carpenter's remake of The Thing was realeased in 840 theaters nationwide. It opened to $3,107,897, en route to a final gross of $13,782,838. The film's budget was about $15 million.
Totally snubbed upon it's initial release, the film has gone on to receive a massive following, and is now considered a genre classic, as well as one of Carpenter's best works.
It's kind of hard to believe that this film is two decades old. It really has stood the test of time. Everything from acting, f/x, music, atmosphere, it all holds up well today.
Anyways, I know there's already a thread on this movie, but I made this one just to celebrate the film's age, and it's ability to withstand the test of time, much unlike most film's of it's decade.
In conclusion, here's to 20 more years of being scared shitless by one of the most disturbing, horrifying films ever made.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY THING !!!!!!!!!!!

I was SO pissed at all that griping when it was released from the "classic" 50's fans who didn't know that that version of Who Goes There had NOTHING to do with the book....as JC's glorious adaption did!

Definetly one of Carpenter's best films. Really cool special effects (especially for that time.)

A great film, which still holds up today.

This movie has 'classic' written all over it.

I have to return some Videotapes....
