I just watched Black Christmas tonight after I just had the shittiest day in the history of me working at my job. It totally put me in a better mood. (that sentence sounds like soooo 80's oh my gawd tee hee). It was the first time I had ever seen it and I was scared half to death. The voice acting of the killer is the best obscene caller voice I have ever heard. *spoilers*

and the shots of the eye. Eeegads. They gave me the willies. Overall I give this bad boy a 106 out of 10.

I agree this movie was one in a long time that made me feel like uneasy. It was really creepy to hear the killer's voice. ANd like you said where we see his eye through the door side is creepy!

Also Olivia Hussey is the shit.

STORY TIME!!!

Sorry to bother you guys with the off topic BS. I'll be done in a sec, and then I'll post my thoughts on Black X-mas.

STORY # 1~~(I just found out about this last night. and I feel the need to tie this into a Black Christmas Conversation..)

For a period of time, Margot Kidder lived in Labrador city...you guys probably have NO idea where that is..well its right on the eastern Coast of Canada, Bordering Ontario.
While she lived there, she played cards with my Great Aunt!!! I wish she were alive so I could hound her with questions!!

STORY # 2~!!!

One night last summer I rented Black Christmas. Remember the Re-issue that came out a while ago, so you could rent the darn thing EVERYWHERE!?!? Anyways, so that night, I found myself to be VERRRY hungry (......), so I automatically figured that quenching this hunger with a large bottle of Marshmallow Cram would be a Pretty Smart thing to do.....
lol, so midway into the movie...I remember the scene pretty acutely, suprisingly enough.

(This jocky guy was being interrogated about hisrelation with one of the girls in the sorority/...SPOILERS...mabye....He impregnated the girl? )

Anyways....I began to feel very ill..(think it was something I ate?) so I ended up spending the rest of the night in the bathroom, throwing up marshmallow-y stuff..

Great movie. Great life-imatates-art role by Margot Kidder.

Yeah, those obscene calls were awesome. And that 'eye' shot was great, very Argento.

Romero, I bet the marshmellowy fluid was scarier than the movie when it decided to make an exit.

MiNOR SPOILERS

God, whoever did some of the voices for Billy's ramblings...

It sounds like a mix of male, female, and baby noises in every possible tone. I love the phone calls. And when Billy goes nuts in the attic, that's fucking craziness

This film has to be my favorite horror movie of all time. Everything was just perfect. The acting, the creepy phone calls, the directing, the music (especilally in Oliva Hussey's muder), and one sweet-ass ending. Last year I had to order the VHS on-line because I couldn't find it anywhere, but now I can't even go to the video store without seeing the DVD. I still don't know if I should spend my money on the DVD, though. They both have the same features, and I like the feel of VHS tapes. What does everyone think I should do?

JasonSlasher, I wouldn't bother with the DVD. If you're comfortable with your VHS copy, then there's no point in shelling out $??.99 for the same thing.

Black Christmas rocks. Plain and simple. Somehow, it has managed to retain its effective scares over the years, never weathering with old age. It's a potent slasher that packs a heavier wallop than Halloween and Friday the 13th combined. Mr. Myers would retract like a frightened turtle if he ever came into contact with Billy. “It's like having a wart removed!”

Apparently, they spliced different voices together to achieve the scatterbrained ramblings that we all know and love.

I love this movie as well, and for a long time now there's been talk of a sequel. I love creepy and moody flicks like this.

TRIVIA!!!

Guess what FAMOUS horror film was originally meant to be a "sequel" of sorts to Black Christmas? http://www.joblo.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

What's the bets on it being re-made? I live in the UK and I've been trying to find a copy on DVD...no joy.

Halloween it is...I am trying to find the site I got it from (there are several with different versions of the story)...I'll post it when I find the one with more details....

Basically what happened is Carpenter and Bob Clark started collaborating on a sequel to Black Christmas, with the intent of having a series of horror films that took place on different holidays....and they created the outline for what would become Halloween...but for one reason or the other (can't remember) it fell thru...and later Carpenter got permission from Clark to expand on the outline, and it became Halloween. Here also were born the seeds of Carpenters original idea of having different stories take place on Halloween.

Sorry guys, I just can't find the Bob Clark interview I read online some months ago....he explained the whole thing, in his own words,,,I've been searching and searching, and tho if you put "Bob Clark John Carpenter" or various combinations of that or Halloween/Black Christmas you will find small references and different versions. The version I wrote about above is Clark's version....I just can't find the damn page again.....sorry...

Damn, was I wayy off on the Jock thing in my previous post...just realized that...dont know Where in the hell I got that..

Anyways, something ELSE that really took me out of the movie..is actually a combination of the one thing...that being Andrea Martin AKA Phil AKA Phillis Stine....

Firstly, seeing the woman act in ANYTHING dramatic (she starred in SCTV) was bizarre.. Why didn't I figure that it was Canadian because of that?? anyways...

Socondly, The Woman Looks EXACTLY Like my mother did when she was younger!!!!

Thirdly....well..I'm not sure. Mabye the answer is on the bottom of this bottle of Marshmallow cream?!?!?
