View Full Version : Oh yes- UK people read
On March 3 next year Dawn of the dead will be released in the uk fully uncut for the first time by BMG, the missing 6 seconds have been restored.
Hey maybe next time you people in the usa start complaining about the mpaa you can think about this

Thank the nine lords of chaos that we Yanks merely have a fascist organization that enforces cuts only if a movie wants rating that'll earn it a decent chance at making any money. Whew! ;)
Seriously, JCR, I understand and sympathize with your situation. Hey, enjoy those 6 seconds, and don't blink!

I just feel sorry for any one who bought the new dead trilogy :( as it means they may have to by DOTD again

I'm fortunate enough to own both the fully uncut and Argento versions of DOTD (in a nifty 2-disc set with Document of the Dead :) ), but to any of you UK Schmoes thinking about getting this BMG disc, you might want to wait for the 3-disc Anchor Bay version, which although slated as R1 initially, will probably get released over here, as Anchor Bay seem to be getting pretty good at getting R2 stuff out these days.
Of course, it seems that a lot of us UK Schmoes have region-free DVDs (and what a godsend they are!) so this may not be a problem!
(BTW, a special edition of Day is coming out too :D )
I get your point night watchmen but living in a country which has Last house on the left has been declared obsene and it's illegal to own a copy, I'd take the mpaa.
some other uk facts:
Texas chainsaw massacre: Completely banned till 1999
Henry POSK: Still cut by about 1 minute
The Exorcist: Banned on video till 1998
reanimator: still cut by about 1.5 minutes (and yes its the "head" scene and the film sucks without it)
Lucio Fulci: every film he made cut or banned at some point. Most are still cut.
Reservoir dogs: banned for 18 months on video while censors paid shrinks to establish (ie. guess) what effect the torture scene would have on children who watched it.
the list goes on and on. I'd take the mpaa.

I understand, dude. I was just joshing you about "six seconds." I'd rather have the MPAA than a board of censors that can fine you or send you to jail for owning a movie they consider obscene. They MPAA can still be frustrating as hell, though, especially when you see some ultraviolent Schwartzenegger flick get a PG-13 (no one under 13 allowed without a guardian) while something like "Waking Life," an intellegent, thought-provoking movie which contains absolutely no violence what so ever is slapped with an R (no one under 17 allowed w/o a guardian).

And don't forget that as well as trimming the film, the BBFC ordered the 'home video' section to be re-edited from the one long take which pulls back to Henry and Otis into a scene which cuts between the action and Henry and Otis viewing it, thereby completely undermining the whole point of the scene, which was to make the audience feel as it it was THEM who were watching the video.
Thankfully I have an uncut R1 version of this masterpiece!

Just thought I'd say that the bbfc are allowing the release of uncut versions of Lucio Fulci's films on DVD, the most recent are CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD, HOUSE OF CLOCKS, THE BEYOND and THE SWEET HOUSE OF HORRORS
I live in the UK and I'll be getting the R1 Version of both Dawn and Day of the Dead
this is partly because of my hate for the bbfc and the likelyhood they may still be cut. i bought Conan the Barbarian in a sale, got home and decided to check it against the R1 version, the bbfc had it as not being cut but lo and behold 25 seconds have been removed from it.....so i'll be taking the bloody thing back and get the R1 uncut version

With regards to the BBFC, one thing we have to watch out for here in the UK is that when something is billed as being "At last! The uncut version!", it only referes to the fact that it is the uncut version that was submitted to the BBFC , as was the case with Zombie Flesh Eaters, which I have 'uncut' on R2 DVD, but which is actually still missing several seconds (which as we gorehounds know, can mean quite a lot - as an aside, I suppose you Schmoes have had to put up with disbelieving friends over the years who can't understand why you have to have the version of such and such a film that is SIX SECONDS (!!) longer than the one available in the UK ;) Always makes me smile, and them scratch their heads....)
Consequently I tend to get most of my horror DVDs either from the US or Canada, where the R1 tapes are more likely to actually be uncut, or from a mail order place in Amsterdam, which again I know has the real deal in uncut stuff (and was the country of origin for most of the banned stuff we had in the 80s :) )
However, as it's the festive season, I'm offering a festive glass to the BBFC......( No, Mr BBFC, it only smells like drain cleaner, now drink up! ;) )
