What happened to Hollywood Pictures. I was looking at my "The Rock" DVD this past weekend and saw it was distributed by them. Were they bought-out? Went bankrupt? Merged with another company? Thanks in advance.

i was just flicking through some old dvd magazines, and found out that Hollywood Pictures are(were) owned by Walt Disney Pictures..it dosn't say much more than that....the magazine is about 6 months old..but you could e-mail Mr Disney and ask him if he sold up...;)

My guess is that it went dormant because most of their films just didn't do very well, with the exceptions of The Sixth Sense and a handful of others. In fact I think I read that the studio had a bad reputation in the film industry due to their mediocre output. They put out some real stinkers as well--such as Color of Night and Burn Hollywood Burn. To be fair though, they did have the courage to back Oliver Stone's challenging (if flawed) Nixon.

Thanks Cyclonus. That clears it up for me.

Well, keep in mind that it's just an educated guess. They could be having internal problems I'm not aware of.

It's a division of Disney, and in their money-losing phase they probably felt they didn't need both Touchstone AND Hollywood since they basically release the same types of film. So, in my mind, they got rid of the least-known and lowest performer, Hollywood. But I really don't know, it's a guess.

They probably more or less phased out the company.
