I personally think that musicians that act in bigger parts in movies shouldn't be in movies at all. I don't think I've ever seen a good movie that has a musician as a starring role. What do you think and have you seen any good movies with musicians in them?

I loooooved dancer in the dark, but I'm a mega Bjork fan..
I've seen quite a few movies with rockstars and they turn out pretty well: Brian Malko in Velvet Goldmine, Kris Kristofferson in Alice doesn't Live Here anymore.. both great movies..

Actually now that you mention it I did see Dancer in The Dark and I thought it was a great movie, and I'm not even a Bjork fan.

Well if they can act then I have no problem with it but if they can't act worth a damn and are on the screen due to name value then I have a major problem with it.

It doesn't really matter where an actor/actress comes from as far as they can deliver, and that's also true for musicians.
Björk was great in DANCER IN THE DARK.
Ice Cube starts to grow on me, especially in THREE KINGS and BARBERSHOP.

hey
i love ice cube. i think he's funny....and boyz in the hood he was good! oh, and higher learning! he was the best thing in it!
ice t was good in surviving the game.
i think ll cool j could be good if he picked better roles.
and snoop dogg was good in baby boy. i love that movie!
oh and i thought eminem was pretty good in 8 mile.
i like wil smith. men in black....come on, he's good. and he's GREAT in bad boys. you gotta give him credit for that.
as for britney spears, she sucks!
mandy moore was good in a walk to remember.
jennifer lopez was good in selena. i like her actually....but she always plays the same character.
but i hate it when singers have to put singing in their movies (cept for selena, there was a reason) for no reason. like crossroads....ugh....i hated it when she sang...why did i even see that movie. and i was alittle annoyed at the part in a walk to remember when mandy moore sang, but atleast they had a reason.....not like crossroads. i hated it even more because she had to sing....erg...
atleast jennifer lopez doesn't sing in all her movies. i like that.
same with ice cube and wil smith.
so thats what i think about that
and the reason i haven't said anything aboiut bjork is because i haven't seen dancer in the dark yet, but hopefully soon

Actually, it's kind of funny but Jennifer Lopez wasnt allowed to sing for her title role in Selena. The execs didnt think her voice was good enough (it isnt nearly as strong as Selenas was) and told her she had to lipsync. She was mad about it at first, I hear. But remember, she was an actor before she started breaking into the music business so really I don't classify her as a singer who acts.
Levon Helm from The Band was excellent in The Coal Miners Daughter. Courtney Love was also really good in The Man On the Moon and let's not forget how great an actress Barbra Streisand can be. She was only 19 in Hello Dolly which is pretty hard to believe if you watch it...she's supposed to be a matronly matchmaker.

Bjork was nothing short of amazing in Dancer in the Dark and that's certainly the best performance by a musician I've ever seen. I'm also a big fan of her music, but don't think my oponion of her performance is biased because of it.
Madonna was great in Evita, and though some people disqualify that, as it was an all-singing performance, it still required considerable acting skill, and I think she pulled it off wonderfully.
