(RANT):Shortage Of Foreign Films At The Video Store...

Do you ever feel like there aren't enough foreign films at your local Blockbuster or whatever.

I feel like some kind of conversation like this would ensue if I dare ask for a foreign film:


ME: "Excuse me, where can I find La Dolce Vita?"

EMPLOYEE: "Oh, do you mean 'Mary Kate and Ashley Do Italy'?"


I mean damn. God forbid a foreign film.

How do you feel about this? Does your local video store carry a good supply of foreign movies?

I am fortunate to have both Blockbuster and a very, very small video store in my town. Blockbuster has nothing, in essence. 10 copies of The Fast and the Furious, but 0 copies of Barton Fink. Foreign Films are especially short-changed.

But, this very small video store is my savior. It's the type of place that has employees who watch foreign films during the day, while waiting for customers. The videos are all behind the counter, and it's this wonderful little movie-community.

Blockbuster is worthless, most of the time.

Seek out alternative smaller video stores.. I assure you what Blockbuster normally don't stock they have it!:D

I'm actually seeing a HUGE amount of festival circuit movies around lately.. In Blockbuster, especially.. For years we've shared a certain mutual hatred (LOL. merrry fucking christmas!) but I'm getitng more and more tempted to go in there, re-open my defunct membership and start from scratch.. Odishon, here I come!

The reason there arent many foreign movies is because most people dont want to see them. I really dont care either which way. Call me ignorent(sp) i dont care, i'll be happy with the crap hollywood has given me, i'm easily amused. still there should be some for people who want to see them, but hey lifes one shitty moment after another so whatya gonna do.

Luckily my videostore has a decent collection of foreign movies, but, yes, it does piss me off. Understandable that they don't have as much since they will make less money off them but still, plenty of excellent foreign films exist which they don't supply to the film afficionado.

Thanks for the answer. Now with renewed Christmas money, I can buy lots of DVD's.
