Assistance needed on "Metroid Fusion"

I just got a Game Boy Advance for Christmas and immediately got into playing the game I received with it, "Metroid Fusion." I'm not surprised that I got stuck so fast, so I'm turning to any schmoes who can help for some assistance. After the computer tells me the elevators have been disabled (after making my way to the data and recharging rooms), it tells me to find a way back down. This is what I'm confused about, as I have no clue how to get out or where to go.
