Your commentary sucks! You sit there with 5 other guys (who all seem like they're afraid of you) and you like to have long ackward pauses, then mention something about what sound affect you wanted to use or what color you wanted the background of a scene to look like. Do you even care about the story? The epic story? That's why I watch movies (your's to).

lol I think that's pretty funny.

It sounds like a rant. There's a thread in Rant, rant, rant for George Lucas if you wish to add on to it.

I agree; he sux.

I disagree. The Lucas commentaries are very informative, interesting, and entertaining. I was enthralled by Lucas and his friend's talks about making the SW films. They are landmarks in digital effects. Lucas does not suck, by ANY means.

I'm sorry guys. THE PHANTOM MENACE commentary track is offle, AOTC is a major improvement. I enjoyed AOTC commentary, but TPM is dull. So you're only half bad George. :D

There is such a thing as not watching it. Ever tried that?

I must admit I agree with Terrell. If you don't like it, switch it off and leave it. Don't carry on watching it and don't complain. There are much worse commentaries out there. I don't know what you where expecting from it, it just a commentary. You must have more productive things to do than watching a commentary you don't find interesting.

I don't agree with that. The biggest purpose of DVD, other than to bring higher audio/video quality is pretty much to make available a lot of material that we wouldn't see otherwise and thus, to encourage purchase rather than rental.

The boxes list the extras as a selling point and aside from the usual and acceptable embellishments of a marketing department, they use that list of extras to sell DVD's, as evidenced by all the threads in this board discussing not only the movies, but also all the additional stuff. If you don't like it, you sure as hell don't have to listen to it but you still are allowed to have the expectation that a certain effort was put in recording it.

Other than that, what can you expect the guy to do? He pays $25 bucks for a non-refundable DVD instead of $10 for a VHS copy, gets home and realizes the director commentary consists of someone interjecting an irrelevant comment every 20 minutes. What is he to do? Just say "oh, well I paid $25 for this DVD with the reasonable expectation that it would be a satisfactory product and now that I found out it sucks, I'll just have to take it and not listen"?

I don't think fans should expect the director to completely reveal his soul during each running second of a DVD but it is after all, all made for entertainment. The studios have to know they can't constantly gyp people by listing extras on their boxes and not delivering. The worst case I’ve ever seen is “xXx” which listed a feature and then when you turned it on, it was a commercial for Pontiac automobiles. That’s just not right.

One thing I do agree with you about though is taht if a commentay sucks, I'll say it does but I sure as Hell won't go on listening to Lucas go on and on for the whole two hours... pure torture. I agree that Lucas’ commentaries aren’t my favorites but the absolute worst ever was Tim Burton on SLEEPY HOLLOW who blurted out something like “it was cold the day we shot that” every once in a while… horrible…

Thank you for understanding. Other things on TPM DVD are great except the commentary. It was a very expensive DVD (as you mentioned) and I guess I expected more from the STAR WARS crew (maybe they could have at least been in the same room).
It was their first time doing it and AOTC is an improvement for their commentary.

I had to turn off the commentary of the director of "Domestic Disturbance." It was just bad. It was like watching a cooking program or something.

I copied the thread to the RANT, RANT, RANT forum to get some more input on the topic.
