I highly recommend DEVIL MAN. Good, chessy, gory fun with lots of cool demons. My all-time favorite japanimation film is PRINCESS MONONOKE. Be sure to check that out as well. It's a long flick, but it's worth it!

Princess Monoke is my best anime movie too. If you like brutal things i recommend you jojo's bizarre adventure ... it's a serie and the most violent i watched ... more than kenshin or ken.

BLOOD: THE LAST VAMPIRE & VAMPIRE HUNTER D: BLOODLUST are good anime horrorfilms.

I bought Blood: The Last Vampire a couple of days ago and was very disappointed. There was some nice animation for sure but the story was both too short and too slight. It felt like a pilot for a series that never happened.

I've seen the original Vampire Hunter D and it was magnificent. I have yet to see the sequel but i'll be rectifying the situation in June when it gets a UK release. I would have bought the US release but it only comes in dubbed flavour. The UK release looks like it's gonna have a Subtitled option.

Another cool Anime horror movie is Perfect Blue. It plays out like an animated Giallo. It definitely contains elements that will strike a chord with any fans of Dario Argento. It has received a considerable amount of acclaim. Great movie.

I've also heard a lot of good vibes about the Serial Experiment: Lain series. There are about 12 episodes I think and it's supposed to be very surreal and eerie. I'll be tracking down a copy myself soon.

Although not strictly horror Neon Genesis Evangelion contains enough horrific elements to appeal to the discerning and open minded genre fan. It's an apocalyptic tale about a war between mankind and the Angels. It contains plenty of elements derived from the Revelations book of the bible. It's very deep and contains a lot of unforgetable imagery. Wonderful.

I'll post more suggestions later when they come to me.

Vampire Hunter D is my all-time favorite anime... it's gory and fun, even though the animation is pretty lackluster (made in 1980, what did you expect)... I'm still trying to find the sequel, Bloodlust...

Devilman is a cheesy gorefest... try that out... it's only two videos, The Birth and The Demon Bird... the second one goes overboard on the bloody bits and has the most hilarious gay-undertoned ending ever.

Battle Angel Alita... how come no one has mentioned this? It's a weird, violent, sci-fi romance story... pretty brutal but sweet at the same time...

And if you really want to be disgusted, grossed-out, shocked or just plain laughing, try Urotsukidoji... that had to be one of the most BIZARRE animes I have ever seen.

Ah, anime. I've been an anime fan for way too long. Anyway, check out these titles... They're more supernatural/horror related.

Vampire Princess Miyu TV (26 episodes, released by TokyoPop) - Miyu is half vampire, half Shinma demon. She is the Guardian, the one who can send stray Shinma back to the darkness. Shinma are demonic beings who like to torment humans. Miyu is aided by the Western Shinma, Larva. Her rival is the Shinma known as Reiha, who can control the wind. This is a very creepy anime and has a good share of one shot filler episodes - manipulative cats, immortal mermaids, living dolls, etc. etc. It also has a very surprising ending.

Devilman Lady aka Devil Lady (26 episodes, released by ADV) - Jun Fudo is a shy model, but she's also a Beast Hunter, Devilman. A woman named Asuka Ran takes Jun to a warehouse and leaves her alone with a monster (known simply as Beasts). It nearly kills her until Jun turns into the Devilman. All over Japan, people are transforming into their Beast forms and it's up to Jun and the Human Alliance - which Asuka works for - to stop them. A dark spin-off of the classic Go Nagai series, Devilman.

Witch Hunter Robin (still airing in Japan, you can get it from www.animeniacs.com on HK DVD) - Robin possesses a Witch gene which enables her a special gift which she uses to help the STN in tracking down other Witches. Then, the captured Witches are sent to the Factory. A very grim, dark anime that is a slight mix between X-Files and X-Men. Great music and interesting storyline. One has to wonder what's up with the lead, Robin.

serial experiments lain (13 episodes, released by Pioneer) - A classmate of Lain killed herself and then a week later, all of her peers receive an email from her. She says that she's in the Wired, another world. If things could not get any weirder, Lain's friends start to see another Lain around town. What exactly is this Wired? A pretty whacked anime with a few good mysteries up its sleeve. More sci-fi suspense rather than horror.

Perfect Blue (movie released by Manga) - Mima Kirigoe is a member of the singing trio Cham. But now her manager wants her to pursue acting. However, one of her most devoted fans doesn't like Mima's new career choice and plans on doing anything - murder, you name it - to make Mima change her mind. A very suspenseful, psychological thriller that leaves you wondering.

Ayashi No Ceres (24 episodes, released by VIZ) - Aya Mikage and her brother Aki are fraternal twins and their birthday nears. They go to the grandfather's house, but it's actually a trap - for Aya. All of the females in the Mikage line possess the Tennyo (Heavenly Maiden) gene. And Aya must die or great harm will be brought to the Mikage family. Legend has it that a fisherman saw a Tennyo bathing one day and stole her heavenly robe. She then couldn't return to heaven. So she was forced to marry the man and bear his children. Now when she's angry or frustrated, Aya turns into Ceres, a very powerful Tennyo that possesses telekinesis and telepathy. From the creator of the popular Fushigi Yuugi series - Yuu Watase - comes this borderline sci-fi anime. It has action, romance, drama and sci-fi.

I've seen very very few anime movies and I'm not a big fan, but in addition to Ninja Scroll, I also enjoyed Darkside Blues. I've seen Akira but it wasn't all that good really.

By the way, has anyone seen FIST OF THE NORTH STAR? Is it any good or would I be wasting time downloading it?

Fist Of The North Star is big-dumb-gory-violent fun. The animation is a little dated but it's still a cracking little movie. You should definitely check it out.

Well, I'm fairly new to anime, so I don't have too much to add here unfortunately...I just discovered Neon Genesis: Evangelion, and it's easily my favorite anime series, and probably my favorite thing in the world right now. I enjoy the various Gundam shows, personally. I'm just getting into Serial Experiments Lain, which means I'm eventually going to have to buy the box set. What I've seen of Trigun I've liked. Cowboy Bepop and Outlaw Star are cool. Of movies, I love Akira, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Metropolis, Ghost in the Shell, and the Vampire Hunter D films. There's plenty of others I'm still waiting to check out, I really appreciate all of the suggestions on this board.
