I just got the LOTR EE for Christmas and I just got to say... IT'S AMAZING! I love all the extras (way over 6 hours) but there's something I'm trying to figure out. My brother saw it over his friend's house and told me there's a hilarious extra showing Jack Black replacing one of the characters in the Council of Elrond scene. Me and him searched my DVD for it (all 4 disks) but we couldn't find it. Is it only in the Gift Box set or did I just not find it? Can any of you tell me where it is?

It's an Easter Egg.
"Disc 1--Go to the Scene Selections menus, and highlight the horizontal picture of Chapter 27, the last chapter on Disc 1. Press down on your remote control’s direction pad to highlight a ring icon. Click on the ring icon to watch the MTV version of Elrond’s secret council"

Boromir: "It's gift!"
Jack Black: You damn right it is!
It's very hilarious, I might add. There's also a 4 minute Two Towers trailer on disc 2 in the scene selection category if you're interested

I've tried unlocking that Easter Egg myself and I can't seem to get anything at all, I can unlock The Two Towers one though, maybe they've changed it for the R2 version, I dunno...

No, it is most definitely also on the r2 disc. I had no problems to see it. Try harder, son! :p

I've tried my PC, PS2, DVD player in my room (Goodmans DVD2999) and the DVD player in the living room (I forgot the make, I'll look it up later) and none of them seem to work, pain in the arse :( The exact same thing happens to me as it does to you, I guess I could try downloading the clip from KaZaA or somewhere, wouldn't hurt to try.

Both eggs were great...the TT trailer gave me chills and Jack Black is hilarious as always. When I first saw that on the Mtv movie awards I was cracking up...now I can do it whenever I want:D

Erm, you quite sure you haven't got the R1 version?
I'm positive it's not on the R2 version at all, but if you'd like to try and prove me wrong then please do because that clip's hilarious. :D
The trailer thing is great. It was the thing put on the end of the film near the end of its run. I had about five versions of it all in crappy quality so it's good to have it on DVD finally.

I own the german r2 discs... (note: i'm a german immigrant here in the UK). Had no problems finding the eastereggs...
can't think of any reason why they would release different r2 versions.
er...wait a minute! maybe Entertainment in Video (the UK distributor) doesn't own the rights for the MTV clip... in all other european and american countries LotR is distributed by Warner (-> AOL Time Warner -> MTV). Maybe that's the cause...

Go to disc 2, scene selections and go to the final page, chapter 48 (I think). Highlight the final chapter and press down and an image of the Two Towers should come up at the bottom of the screen. Press the enter button on your remote and voila!

Thanks Matt I just found it (It was well hidden under the Chapter Titles.) It was a pretty cool trailer and now I'm gonna try searching for more of these Easter Egg things (I had no idea what it was a while ago.) Pretty cool.
The Council of elrond spoof IS on EVERY R2 disc, except for those in the UK. The UK distributor decided not to put it there because if they had done it the disc would have received a "12" rating(i think) instead of PG in the UK...
Tough luck, UK'ers...

Courtsey of dvdeastereggs.com:
"The MTV spoof will not, however, appear on the set issued by EiV in the United Kingdom. This is because the spoof would have casued the disc to have a rating which is higher than the 'PG' given to the film and all the other elements on the DVDs. Since all DVDs are classified by the British Board of Film Classification overall with regard to the 'highest categorised element', EiV were not willing to put this on the disc, risk a higher classification and prejudice sales. This will not be the case with LOTR:FOTR R2 discs issued elsewhere in the region.
Since LOTR: The Two Towers has been given a 12A film classification, perhaps they might include it on a future issue of that disc. Then again..... -- stuartb@beeb.net"
