Yes, Ladies and Gents, this tournament is dedicated to those great character or little known actors, who often take a back seat to those big stars of today, but still manage to steal the show on more than one occasion. You might not often even recognise the name, but when you see his face, you know you have seen him in several films, which often even aren't that great, but still their presence is enough to make it atleast watchable.

So i figured since there are so many greats out there, i should let it consist of 64 actors, where i have chosen the first 50, but it's up to you to choose the rest 14. It should look like this: Someone picks an actor, but it must be seconded by another schmoe, and so on till we got all 64 actors. Do i make any sence?

So are you up for it guys?
Here are the first 50 actors:

01. Alan Rickman (OUT)

I actually have the rest 14 too, so if you guys can't think of anymore actors, it shouldn't be a problem:)

So just go ahead and pick the rest 14!
And then we can start the tournament!

EDIT: As it stands, we have now 57 actors in our tournament, and now we need 7 more actors, then we are ready to go.

Can we nominate more than one? I nominate Jeremy Davies, Bruce Campbell, Roy Scheider, Maury Chaykin, Colm Feore, Dan Hedaya, Colin Firth, Jon Favreau, Noah Taylor, Bob Gunton, Vince Vaughn, and, if ladies are allowed, Viola Davis and Alfre Woodard.

If someone wishes, they can always do a ladies tournament

And yes, more than one nomination is welcome, they just need to be seconded.

I'm a fan of Leeland Orser: the lust victim in Se7en, the pilot in Saving Private Ryan who's plane went down, and one of the guys in Very Bad Things.

Also Jon Polito, a regular in the Coen Bros. movies.

I just viewed his filmiography, and i have to say, this man has been quite a workhorse himself!

Yes, meet Xander Berkeley!

And some of his best work is as follows (and for everyone, who appriciates him, to second this wonderful actor!):

Apollo 13
Leaving Las Vegas
Gattaca

So we can now start the tournament!:)

Hopefully more people will join us, because it's time for the first round:

And here we have two Alans...

Alan Rickman

VS.

Alan Cumming

Cumming is a versatile actor, who I like a lot. Rickman, however is a truly fabulous actor, who can play stock villains with panache, and also convince me that he's Eammon De Valera, back from the dead.

Rickman.

This is unfair:
1)I don't think Gene Hackman must be here, because he's well-known and he's a star (star=someone you can put before the title and people go to see him).
2)NOONE is going to pick Jeremy Davies, although he's a good actor too: he has less experience and is not so known.

But if you want it, I will choose:
Gene Hackman (or you expected something else?)

First, the idea for the tournament wasn't about how big the star is, but rather for character actors, and it depends also how people define a character actor. For me they both are, but i guess people see it differently.
And second sence it's the first round, i didn't want to put for example Christopher Walken and Gene Hackman against each other, because they are both one of the most respecter actors out there, but still IMO they are both character actors.
But maybe it wasn't such a good idea after all, because Gary Oldman is also in this list of actors, and it probably will cause some problems as well in understanding the meaning of my tournament.
Hopefully you will continue though with this tourney. :(

My reasons were focused on the second part of the title of the thread: "little-known actors". Obviously, Gene Hackman is a character actor.
I supose it would be better to divide the tournament and make it 2: one for little-known and the other for character. But it's an idea for the future, let's continue with this.:)
