I have a little dvd dilema. Since I am asking for help on a subject, I decided to post it here.
I recently purchased two dvds, Blade 2:PE and Evil Dead:BOTA. Both are special editions that are supposed to be in widescreen, however they are in fullscreen.
Has anyone else had this problem? Should I refund? Is it something with my dvd settings? How oh how can I solve this?
I have my Blade 2 recipt, yet can't find Evil Dead (i bet i'm screwed here).
Your input on this situation that is probably easy to solve would be greatly appreciated.

Hmmmm.....I dont want to insult your intelligence, but you do know that widescreen doesnt necessarily mean that it will have the blacks bars on the bottom and top of the screen. It could still be in widescreen and not have those bars. I'm not quite sure of the terminology but those black bars mean "anamorphic widescreen". Although your dvds might not have the "black bars" they could still share the same aspect ratio as no bars. Wow, am I bad at explaing things...lol.

What kind of TV do you have, is it widescreen or a normal TV? If It is a Normal Standerd TV, then go to your dvd Set-Up menu, and go to the aspect ratio thingy, and sometimes if you have a Fullscreen TV, and it is set on Widescreen on your dvd player, then it will show up in full screen, but if it is set up on Standard TV, then it will come up on widescreen. The same thing happened to me.

unless u have a widescreen TV the black bars r always there my man!!!
as for ur dilema.... it is after xmas... u got it for a xmas present but the idiot bought u the full screen version and u wanted the widescreen!!
or it mnay be sumptin w/ ur dvd settings, check em out, i think u want it set to 16:9 OR u want it set to letterbox (they may be the same, i doubt it, just check it out bro)!!
Well, I can solve half of your Dilemma right now:
Evil Dead was shot in 1.33:1, so your DVD is actually in the correct aspect ratio. Which is weird, because my DVD has an anamorphic 1.85:1 ratio(which is actually not the OAR, but I like it nontheless).

Well thanks for the input. I do feel a little ridiculous asking question now. The tv is busy right now but when it is free I will post later. I know Blade 2's ratio was 2.35:1, but there are no black bars there, and I don't have a widescreen. I'll post again after further investigation.

if you got a full screen of Evil Dead, then consider yourself lucky. its OAR. even though the MAR is alright, i would have perfered Evil Dead without any matting.

Yes I guess I am lucky, I don't know the OAR of most of my favorite films, so that thought of one of them appearing fullscreen never really crosses my mind.

Ok, problem solved easily. Moderators, please close this thread, and let us never speak of it again.

Blade 2's aspect ratio is actually 1.85:1, there pal. It's a misprint on the box. Maybe you do have a 16x9 TV.
Godamn, why can't I have one?!?!
