I currently have a Sharp DV600h player at the moment, and have had it for nearly 3 years now. i suppose it is an ok player, but it dosn't play some discs properly,...it sometimes dosn't output d.t.s properly(there is a thread about this somewhere),..and it freezes up on some discs occasionally(ice age, gladiator The grinch terminator 2,..to name but a few
i am going to upgrade later this year,..i will probably spend about £300-£350 ,...so what i am basically asking for is some advice on which player to get next,...which player do you have at present?..are you happy with it?......What player do you think i should buy ? and which player do you think gives you as less problems as possible,...i will consider any dvd player, preferably multi region(so that i can start getting region 1 dvds)
thanks..D...

I had a top of the line DVD player but it is gone and can't be fixed. My grandparents have a toshiba DVD player and it works like a charm. It has great sound, plays VCD's,DVD's and CD's. It has lots of features like turning Wide Screen to Full Screen ect. It is the best one to get.

You Can't go Wrong with a SONY DVP-NS315 multi region(or The NS415 For a Little Extra $) Plays Mp3,V-CD,CD-R,CD-RW......ah! and DVD's Too!
I've owned a Pioneer DV-C503 5 disc carousel player for 2 years now. Not one glitch whatsoever. Plays EVERYTHING I've thrown at it. It also plays VCDs, burned dvds, Cds, cdr etc... this can now be had for $199.00. I love this machine.... I think it just may be the KEY to WORLD PEACE...
... well... THAT and PIZZA. :D

My suggestion would be for a Panasonic RP-82 or for more money an RP-91. Mostly what you want to look for is something progressive scan and has the chroma bug fix. You can get better players than those 2 but they fall within your price range.

I have an RCA DRC300N. I won it in a contest from The Score(Canadian Sports Channel) and it has been a very awesome player and has given me no problems at all.

RCA is a make that i wasn't familiar with until 2 or 3 days ago,. i think this is a popular make in america,..am i right?
over here, makes like,.. Sony,Panasonic,Pioneer,Sharp and J.V.C are the normal picks for most folk,..so makes like RCA ,..kind of put me off a bit,..only because i've never heard of them,...are there any other makes that you think rock,..and that we might not have heard of(let's leave out cheap Japanese makes...I:E shinco, scan, onkyo and yelo...because these are shit(according to the best dvd magazine in the uk!!,well some of them get a good review....i think mainly, because they are cheap multi-region players)
I know that there are too many players to choose from,......that is my problem...you know....the more i think about it ,the more i think that i have been sold a duff dvd player
Also, what would you American schmooes consider to be the ....TOP END dvd players...over here we have a company called Arcam, and another called Denon,..these top end players retail for £1,000+ that is the best that we can offer. Would you guys' pay that for a dvd player:confused::D :D
well done Mikey 2 Dope on winning something:D

I have both a Panasonic and a Hitachi. I prefer the Panasonic since I won it here on JoBlo.com (Plus it's great!). I have no problems with any of them.

Shifty, stop looking for advice in this forum and go here:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/index.php
Go to the DVD player section and read away.
Onkyo is a good brand and so is Pioneer (I have a DV-333). Denon is considered a very good high-end line here in the US also, they're German I think. RCA is an American company that used to be 100% USA but ever since the 80's they've outsourced virtually all of their electronics thru Japanese contractors. I think a lot of RCA is actually made by Sony.
I'm telling you, the Panasonic RP-82 or RP-91 is the way to go. The RP-91 costs more than the 82. You need to look for progressive scan, macrovision, no chroma bug and supports Dolby 5.1 and DTS.

For a decent price player I have no complaints about the Toshiba SD-2109. :
Colorstream® Component Video Output
10-Bit, 27 mHz Video D/A Converter
24-Bit/96 kHz PCM Audio Compatibility
25 Sector Picture Zoom
Time Search
Coaxial Digital Audio Output
Spatializer N-2-2 Virtual Surround Sound
Dolby Digital® and DTS Compatible Digital Output
Composite Video Output
S-Video Output
Parental Lock
Icon Based On-Screen Displays
Bit-Rate Meter
Dynamic Range Control
Multi-Camera Angle Select
Multi-Language Select
Multi-Subtitle Select
Title Stop
Karaoke Vocal
Widescreen, Letterbox and Normal Picture Set-up
Energy Star Compatible
Amazon.com Editorial Review:
Toshiba has pared an excellent DVD player down to its essentials for high-quality sound and image playback, making the SD-2109 a no-frills alternative to higher-priced models. With Dolby Digital and DTS digital-audio outputs, as well as composite, S-Video, and ColorStream component video outputs, we found the SD-2109 well-equipped to power any burgeoning home-theater system.
While more flexible DVD machines offer features such as analog decoding from Dolby Digital sources, karaoke-microphone inputs, and headphone jacks, the SD-2109 is by no means bereft of features. Besides traditional DVD features such as camera-angle selection, subtitling, and language preference, the Toshiba SD-2109 also offers three levels of zoom and reverse, and forward-play speeds from 1/8x to 30x. The Toshiba SD-2109 also does a great job locating specific sections on a disk through title and chapter skip as well as a convenient "time search" feature.
A nice touch available on this and other Toshiba DVD players is Video Black Level expander circuitry. With this function you can expand the picture's overall contrast range to derive richer, deeper blacks and finer tonal gradation, both of which we found enhanced low-light viewing. As expected, the SD-2109 proved extremely easy to set up and navigate, tiny remote and all. A super entry-level DVD player!
Pros:
Dolby Digital and DTS outputs
Component video outputs
Good features for the money
Cons:
Nonglow remote control
No headphone jack
Amazon.com Product Description
The inherent quality and flexibility of Toshiba's SD2109 sets it apart from the competition. As a developer of the DVD format, Toshiba consistently leads the industry in the introduction of technological breakthroughs and convenience features. The SD2109 DVD Video Player not only delivers superior video and audio performance, it has all the connections necessary for a growing home entertainment system including ColorStream(tm) component video outputs as well as Dolby Digital and DTS compatible.

By the way Shifty, you're not missing out on ANYTHING not knowing about RCA. It is an awful brand and I apologize on behalf of all Americans if someone outside of the US has one.
