REVIEW

Probably the silliest and dumbest movie I have ever seen. It doesn't just push the boundries of reality and physics, it breaks them in two, steps on them, spits on them and mails them too your moma!
The plot is there just to showcase computer generated explosions and boring action sequences. By the end, it does pick up a little bit when he's driving the sweet GTO but that's one good thing in a pile of crap. It takes everything that makes James Bond work and multiplies them by ten. It just doesn't work.
The acting is pretty bad except for an embarassing turn by Samuel L. Jackson. Vin Diesel just stands around, looking tough and spouting stale one liners while wearing an ugly fur coat.
So if your looking for an action fix, rent Commando or Terminator instead.

Well I didn't like it that much. But the fact is, it is a movie where to like it, you must let your brain sit down(have a tall one) and just watch it. That's what I tried to do. At time I thought it was pretty good. It was a good action flick. But the film does include the horrendues acting of Vinny, and Sammy. So, it wasn't as bad as the plauge, fun time, that's basically it.

I hated this movie. I find it hard to sit through a "film" where Vin is riding a motorcycle one second and the next he's flying over a fence in the air.

Fucking annoying man. I hated it. The worst of 2002.

Holy Shit.. where to begin.....

Okay.. with the good: This flick has EXCELLANT location shooting, fantastic set design, and some over the top well done and FUN sfx......

.. too bad it's ALL squandered on THIS movie!

STUPID, STUPID, STUPID plot! (Yes, I DID check my brain at the door... and YES, I WASNT expecting ROCKET SCIENCE.... and YES... I wasnt expecting to see an Oscar nominated film... now that THOSE cliches (which are used when someone defends a TURD) are dispatched off.... I couldnt believe how BAD this movie was! I couldnt enjoy it on ANY level at all. The dialogue: "Life is shit"..... "what are you going to do"?... or..... "I will smoke EVEN when I am dead"!..... how about... "Catch him fast.. Kill him slow"!
This flick must have been a WET DREAM for those who live 1/2 their lives (or longer) inside of an X-Box or a Play Station....

My EYES were fucking bleeding from reading such insipid subtitles.

I couldnt even enjoy this just for the action..... too far and in between.... which obviously had to be broken up to showcase the NON ACTING talent of Vin Diesel. HOLY FUCKING SHIT! Quick! Somebody head back to the set of Saving Private Ryan and see if his acting talent is lying anywhere on the battlefield! EVERYTIME this guy opened his mouth to talk, I fucking cringed at HOW BAD his delivery was. I am stupefied, mortified.. and SOLIDIFIED in the fact that the masses who made this flick a hit at the box office are not too smart when it comes to what a "good time" popcorn action flick is. Charlies' Angels TOTALLY succeeded in being what xXx attempted to be but failed MISERABLY. Somebody better give Sam Jackson a fucking clue.... this AND Formula 51 in the same year??? SAM! What the fuck were ya thinking dude????? PLEASE dont tell me you're gonna end up being yet ANOTHER fucking hollywood (cash) sell out actor????? I cant believe a sequel is being made..... oh the humanity.

YEAR OF RELEASE 2002

Where are the FUN popcorn action flicks this year? In 2001 we were blessed with treasures like THE MUMMY RETURNS, THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS and A KNIGHT'S TALE but this year we've been graced with crap like THE SCORPION KING, EIGHT LEGGED FREAKS and now xXx. I was expecting some good summer popcorn fun out of this movie. I wanted to enjoy it, I really did. I thought with all the continuous action sequences and explosions that wouldn't be hard. Little did I know, it was a challenge to enjoy this putrid trash.

The movie's main purpose is to have lots of explosions, lots of chases and over-the-top action sequences. In this the movie really succeeds. That's why it earns a 2-star rating. The action sequences are excellent. If this movie weren't so strong in that area then this movie would've definitely been a true one-star stinker. Anyway, the action in this movie is mostly excellent, with the best of the best being Triple X escaping his own avalanche. It's over-the-top, glorious fun. Can't forget the motorbike chases either or the intense final showdown with Xander Cage trying to stop a submarine exploding. Or something.

The stunts in this movie are excellent, but what I find a movie really needs is a story. And a good one at that. The movie starts well with the story casually building up, I enjoyed the "test" scenes with Xander Cage outsmarting the character played by Samuel L. Jackson. The movie's story at the beginning is about some government fighting agency or something needing criminals to help fight crime (how ludicrous). The movie is half way between a story and a bunch of action sequences then but in the second and third acts its basically about something that is going to blow up and Xander Cage stopping it, and then a whole bunch of action sequences. There's also a few "conversation" scenes to "spice" it up.

Between the second and third acts I was thinking to myself something very entertaining will have to happen in this film for it to come out of the 1-star area. They gave it to me thankfully hence the 2-star rating. It's quite strange because in this film the strengths are the very first scenes and the very last scenes. The middle - to hell with the middle, the story, let's just blow a whole lotta shit up!

The acting in this movie is not one of its strong points. Vin Diesel, fitting his role perfectly and being a genuine action hero, has his "tough-guy" image embarrassed by wearing a fur coat throughout half of the film. That was really stupid. It made his Triple X character look like a total homosexual.

The rest of the cast, bar Samuel L. Jackson, are bad. Plain bad. All of the cast have really, really bad accents which I could not stand and often had me laughing out loud because they were so off and terrible. Asia Argento was the only one that wasn't
entirely terrible, she went over-the-top in this film a lot though. It was nice to see her character getting some depth though. They doesn't happen often in brainless action movies. Martin Csokas was terrible and completely exaggerated every single line he had in that movie. He was about as evil as a block of cheese. The rest of the characters and actors do not stand out as being bad or great but they are all as totally forgettable as their characters.

Another one of this movie's weaknesses is its script. It's filled with horribly cheesy lines like "catch him fast! Kill him slow!" and "your in the Xander zone now!" The story, as I mentioned before, is virtually absent from the film. We are left with the strength in this script being the somewhat depth to the leading female character, whom I actually felt sorry for at one point.

Instead of brainless fun, this is more just brainless. Vin Diesel is the new Arnold but I just hope he gets movies that are better than this one. Hopefully he won't be stuck with films like "Triple X", "Quadruple X" or "Pentagon X".

Although I kind of enjoyed Fast and the Furious (Although I liked it better when it was called Point Break), I could not find it in my heart to endear myself to XXX in any way whatsoever.

It was just....bad. lack-luster story, trite directing, unengaging dialogue and insipid characters.

And JUST when you thought it couldn't get any worse...we have our man Vin blasting evil out of the air by way of a heat-seeking missile that is so high-tech that it can actually lock on to....get this...a CIGARETTE!!!!!

After this movie, Pearl Harbor is actually starting to look kind of appetizing.

xXx (2002)

xXx was worse than I expected it to be. I must ask myself, what was the point? It wasn't even passable as mindless entertainment. The dialogue was wretched and the plot was confusing, not because it was deep or anything, but because it had so many holes that it just didn't add up. It was also too long, this 2 hour MTV music video could have been cut down to 2 minutes.

I enjoyed The Fast & The Furious (8/10 or B+), but xXx makes The Fast & The Furious look like American Beauty. Some of the scenes were interesting and Asia Argento was easy on the eyes. But other than that I really can't think of much I liked about it. Although the ending does give me hope that the sequel might be better. But I still won't rush out to see it, if at all I will check it out when it hits video shelves.

Overall, the best thing about xXx is the end credits, not just because it's finally over, but because they seriously kick ass. They are some of the best end credits I've ever seen. Of course, when the end credits are the best thing about a movie, it can't be very good. Not completely horrible, but it has a lot of major flaws and a terrible plot, or lack of plot.

Grade: 5/10 or C-

By the way, PorcheRacer, what would you give it for a grade?

xXx is one of those unintentionally hillarious movies. There are some horrible lines, and there are scenes in which the director tries to make them look dramatic, but they turn out to be really funny. The action is great, but it does get really out of hand at times. What also adds to the funniness are the plot holes, and how predictable it is. If you look at the action though, you'll forget about how ridiculous this film is.

Could anyone tell me how much screentime Asia Argento has in this movie (approx.)?
Cause I really can't stand Vin Diesel and this movie looks terrible, but I am a big fan of Ms. Argento, so I was wondering if it was worth it?

She has quite a bit, but I still wouldn't say it was worth it. Rent at your own risk I guess. I hope you make it through the movie alive.

I liked it. It's not a movie meant to be taken seriously. Great action scenes and Diesel kicks ass as an action hero. I'll definitley see the sequel in theaters.

Triple X or Triple F?

I remember seeing this film at a friends b-day party. All of us were filled with great expectations as we waited to grab tickets and sit in the comfy seats in the cinema room where XXX was being played.

I enjoyed the opening scene. It kinda made me wonder what was going to happen next, and how the story would develop. It didn't really. It kind of dragged along in a lot of scenes, and the acting didn't help. Especially from Vin Diesel. I felt he could do a lot better. I mean all he did really was wear a giant fur coat, walk around looking tough and rough while having a few lines. Samuel L Jackson played in a role that made me look at him differently. I thought his acting in this was disappointing. Not what I expected from a man that had a good reputation as a fine actor in Hollywood.

Most of the stunts were a little too much. Too much blowing up and smashing stuff and beating the shit out of each other, and not enough quality acting. However I did enjoy most of the action sequences. I found the film finally found some form towards the end of the film. It was probably the best fraction of the film. One line i found amusing was when he used the heat seaker on that russian smoker, who was trying to hold them off.

I told you smoking would kill you someday

Anyway I've had more fun watching other movies and recommend people to see other better action films such as the Terminator films or the James Bond ones. Much more fun and realistic. (not too sure about James Bond die another day)

Wow, there are a lot of people who didn't like XXX. Well, add one more to the list. Aside from a few good one liners, Asia Argento, and one cool explosion or two, I found this movie so extremly crappy. I don't mind Vin Diesal as much as some, but he definetly needs to takes some acting lessons or pick some better scripts.
Do something instead of subject us to this mindless action movie. And believe me, I tried to like it.

Just watched XXX last night. WOW did it suck! Plot was a joke, Characters were paper thin, Action was so blueprinted and set up....awful. It ran like a music video. Vin Diesel ( whom I truly don't mind. In fact, his new flick "A Man Apart" looks pretty good.) Was terrible, He wasn't some rebellious extreme athlete who ends up being a secret agent, he was just....Vin Diesel. I honestly can't see how you go from doing such a good job in one movie(Riddick, Pitch Black), to being as awful as he was in this. sam Jackson was in it purely for the paycheck, and so that there would be at least one big name to support the film in case Vin couldn't hold it up himself. I can't even call it an enjoyable "Popcorn" flick. But nonetheless, it made a shitload of cash in the box office, and will of course spawn a sequel, then another one....and another one.....For shame.

Wow! I found other people who don't like this movie. The action was over the top, the special effects were overdone and unimpressive, the action scenes were rather choppy andthe characters were really rediculous. It had it's share of fun, but it didn't make up for it's share of stupidity.
