Characters

The Toxic Avenger: former buck-toothed geek turned lumpy-headed mutant with a heart of gold and a deadly mop; the sworn protector of Tromaville.

The Noxious Offender: Toxie's evil alter ego, he favors gold neck chains, Nazism, and grotesque sexual experimentation. His penile implant is not to be fucked with [pun not intended]

LardAss/Chester: Toxie's sidekick, his superpower is eating things, and he beats up villains with a loaf of french bread. His alter ego Chester is a particle physicist reduced to giving blowjobs for money and snacks.

Tito and Sweety-Honey: two "tards" that Toxie accidentally takes into Amortville with him. Tito calls himself the "Retarded Rebel", does a lot of drugs, and likes porn. Sweety-Honey really is sweet, and ends up falling in love with Tito despite his deficiencies.

Pompey: a black guy who is dragged behind a pickup truck until there's nothing left but his head, but he still lives to the end of the movie, when he decides to become Tito's sidekick [Tito decides to stay in Amortville and become the Retarded Avenger].

The Superheroes: Banded together to fight Noxie, they consist of Sgt. Kabukiman NYPD, who by now is a pathetic horny drunk; Mad Cow Boy, a cow/man creature who gives rousing patriotic speeches entirely in moos; Dolphin Man, who is exactly how he sounds; Master Bator, a cross between bad rapper Master G and serial rapist John Bator; and Vibrator, a skanky chick with silver skin who has a giant sex toy as a weapon.

Sara/Claire: Toxie's and Noxie's girlfriend, she is rather stupid and blind in Toxie's world, and a deaf, abused slave with rotten teeth in Noxie's world. Claire ends up with Chester, her old boyfriend, and Sara gives birth to Toxie's son.

Plot

When the Tromaville School For The Very Special is overrun by a gang calling themselves the Diaper Mafia, Toxie comes in to save the day, in his own particular fashion: namely, bloody mass murder of the gun-and-pacifier-sporting psychos. When a bomb attached to one of them goes off, though, Toxie and his two retarded friends are catapulted through a split in the space-time continuum and end up in the Bizarro World version of Tromaville, Amortville. This split occurred because a bomb was let off in a school by Noxie at the exact same time, and he in turn gets sent to Tromaville, where he promptly teams up with the repressed-Nazi police chief and begins a reign of terror, such as massacreing the mayor and his staff at his mansion, Tromadu [actually it's the Playboy mansion] Meanwhile, Toxie and his allies have to find a way to get back home, while simultaneously fighting the evil versions of Tromaville's superheroes, amonst others; the ticking clock is that Sara has been impregnated by both Toxie and Noxie, and the good and evil fetuses are battling inside her womb, which will cause her to explode if she can't abort one of them. Will our heroes succeed? Buy the sceener copy like I did and find out.

Review

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the funniest, most entertaining B- movie since, well, since Lloyd Kaufman's last movie. This is the first time I have actually laughed aloud at the jokes in a Troma film. The script writing just keeps getting better and better; while I immensely enjoyed Terror Firmer imensely, it seemed to me that it's goal was to cram as much disgusting offensiveness into one movie as they could, built around the flimsiest of plot-lines. Citizen Toxie, however, is firmly rooted in an involving story with memorbale, funny, even sometimes touching characters. This doesn't mean Troma's gone soft, though; far, far from it. There's enough bouncing boobs and squirting blood here to fill a dozen '70's grindhouse flicks, as well as very politically-incorrect jokes just crammed right up the old wazoo [good example: the abortion clinic with coat hangers all over the operating room, but they're plastic, so it's safe]. The whole movie, if I may steal something from another review I read of it, is as if a teenage nerd who has spent way too much time indoors mashed together his best issues of Superman, Mad Magazine, Fangoria, and Playboy, then whirled them all around in a blender while his punk/metal music collection blasted in the backround. I'd even go far as to say this is better than Toxie Part 1, which, for all its entertainment value, was quite hampered by truly hideous acting and some sequences that just didn't work. This time, though, everything works. Everything Lloyd and his team set out to do, they pulled off. If there is any justice in the world, Citizen Toxie should become the new millenium's first cult masterpiece for freaks and drunken college students everywhere; and even if you're not in those camps, take a look anyway when it comes to DVD next year. If you can get past what I've listed below, [and if you can't, why are you even on this site?] you will find a truly well-written and directed comedy that was born about thirty years too late: the drive-ins would have had lines stretching miles for this thing.

Notable Moments of Sex

The lesbian scene between Sara and a some girl with blue hair that Noxie picked up off the streets; Real Bikini Television; Toxie accidentally gets transported onto the set of a porn flick called Missionary Impossible; Vibrator is always playing with her own weapon; a female Diaper Mafia member beats a retarded kid about the face with her boobs, then rapes him [that's the only way I can describe it]; Toxie getting it on with Sara [he gives off steam and drools green slime when he cums]. On the other front, two guys are shown full-frontal with Mr. Winky waving around [one of them is about seventy years old, the only truly disgusting moment in the whole movie for me], and a gay guy shows his ass before jumping on Toxie and humping him. Oh yeah, and we also learn Sgt. Kabukiman has the same hairstyle in his pants as he has on his head.

Notable Moments of Violence

Mostly concentrated in the first and last reels, like Dawn of the Dead. There are people getting shot in the head and torso, with very big, exaggerated squib effects; many heads crushed under and between various objects; a guy's arms ripped off; a guy stabbed through the mouth with a crucifix; tongues ripped out; a guy's finger ground down to a point in a pencil sharpener, then used to stab his eye out; mop handle impalements; a mutant creature run through an industrial meat grinder; syringe needles thrown like ninja stars; a throat ripping, a face ripping, and that aforementioned penile implant, well, I won't spoil it. You have been warned

Sweet. Nice to find another Troma fan, and a female one at that. They seem to be scarce on this board, which I guess is understandable since Troma is more gross-out comedy than horror. Thanks for the compliment, too, I wrote that review right after I watched it for the first time and was still reeling from its awesomeness.

good to meet another tromite. i'm a huge troma fan. the first movie i saw was "the toxic avenger," but i saw "terror firmer" about a year later and was hooked. then last february (i think) i went to a screening of "citizen toxie" and the next day met lloyd at a signing at universal citywalk. he was so cool! he signed everything i brought (his book, toxie dvd and "tromeo and juliet" poster). then, i emailed him to thank him and he emailed me back, and we've been doing that ever since. early this summer i drove to oxnard for a talk/signing, then later in the summer i went to another one here in l.a.. it's so amazing - he always remembers me and talks with me and everybody there forever. long live troma! some girls i know who have seen troma movies are always flame 'em because they think the women are all stupid and take their clothes off too much. well, i always counter that *everybody* in troma movies are stupid, and anybody who's seen "terror firmer" knows that chicks aren't the only ones who get naked in troma movies. i'll end my troma rant now.

That's fine, I like to listen to people rant. Sadly, I've never seen a Troma film in the theaters, nor been to signings/conventions that have featured Lloyd. It's probaly because I'm too lazy to travel to places for them; none of them have come by my hometown, Urbana, in Illinois, nor by Carbondale, IL, where I go to school. IIn fact, I've only shaken Bruce Campbell's hand once. Some horror fan I am, huh?

And as for those girls who flame Troma flicks, they should have known what they were getting into; Troma makes B exploitation movies, and sex/nudity are one of the guaranteed ingredients to make a successful trash flick. Probably they just don't have the skewed sense of humor it takes to be a proper Tromite. I have noticed that most of the fan letters on troma.com are from guys, though.

i definitely feel fortunate that i live in a big city like l.a. where there are semi-frequent tromatic happenings. however, the only troma movie i have seen in a theater was "citizen toxie," and it was quite an experience. it's one thing to be a home, alone, laughing at the dvd. it's quite another to be at a theater full of tromites who love the shit out of what they're watching. every troma fan should get to experience that, and i'm sure you will one day. hey, and i'd kill to shake bruce campbell's hand, so you're one up on me there, renny.

Actually, I'm bringing my new copy of CT down to school with me, and I will do my best to convince all my friends to watch it with me at once. I don't think they're Troma fans, either, so the expressions on their faces should be priceless :D

Also, I think Bruce is still on his book signing tour, but I can't be sure; the one I went to was last September. If he still is, though, it's very likely he'll make it through your area or close to it. Just keep your eyes and ears open; the cool fact is, I learned about the book signing I went to in a supermarket parking lot! This guy parked next to me saw the Evil Dead sticker on my car and told me he was going to be in Decatur [about 20 miles south of Urbana] and I just grabbed two of my friends and went. Really shows how supportive people can be to each other when they share an interest that might seem deviant to others.

This is one of the best Troma movies i've ever seen (and i've seen alot). Kaufman is at his most disgusting and funny when he soen't pull any punches. I saw the Philly premiere last April and got to meet Lloyd Kaufman himself and he acts like a used car sealesman (but in a good way). Tito the Retarded Teeanger is a classic character.

What's your favorite scene in the movie? Mine would be the fight between Toxie, the evil Kabukiman, and the evil Mad Cowboy, especially the last line:

Kabukiman: "They're very slowly getting away! Eh, fuck 'em."

I own this and Terror Firmer. I actually enjoyed TF a little bit more, but Citizen Toxie was still a great movie. My fav. part was the first scene! The 'retard rebel' ha!

When Toxie gets one of the Diaper Mafia guys and shoves the guys head up his own ass.. That was the best scene.
