Well I just watched this movie last night and again this morning and it was the most enjoyable slasher movie that has come out of this decade so far. I had to search around for this one, there isn't a hint of it at blockbuster or many other stores so I had to go to every video store in my city until I finally came upon a VHS version of it. So very exitedly I put it in and was grinning a big red smile the whole way thorugh.
I only have one question though, where is the uncut DVD??? I have read the original script(after viewing the movie) and Arrows review and know of ALOT of gore that was "hacked" by the MPAA. I have heard about a 5 minute long death scene, some tree nailings, a huge orgy and a little more red and the VHS seems like a very tame version of what was originally supposed to be a disturbing pycho mindfuck gorefest slasher(whoa!). So where the hell is my Uncut DVD!!! Maybe someday, like the friday the 13th part 7 Uncut...
Besides that, It was great! I loved Britany Murphy in the lead role, she carried the movie all the way. What a talented actor she is and I can definately say that I will be watching her career with great interest(heh, star wars!). The other actors were good as well except for Jody's boyfreind, I thought his idea of smiling whenever he needed to act was very lame. Oh well, I guess pobody's nerfect. The killer's revealing was a little predictable but his craziness more than made up for it, what a loon!
All in all it was great, loved the axe scenes and the score was surprisingly effective for an electronic score. Good stuff!
Cherry Falls seems to rob a few "classics" of certain shots and themes for similar genre filcks, it's done in good taste so I'm not crying. Remember when Jody's dad walked out of the "sherman" house and the killer moves into the shot ala HalloweeN? Well if you didn't notice this then you should go see it again duder.
Well this is a weirdly long review endused by greens so I'll end it, but if you havent seen this movie, god damn! You have to see this movie!
Cherry Falls 8.5/10
Fav line(The NEw GUy Guy):So... have you ever played death quake???
Girl:Ok....but you have to wear a rubber.
good shite.....
And the dude in the back of the van that never gets to hit the bowl, what a shmuck!

This movie had to be re-cut 5 times in order to achieve an R-rating. I believe this is the worst in history, but not sure. Believe it or not...I think there was more graphic sex cut then violence itself.
Anyhow, you will be glad to know that there IS an unrated version floating out there. Says so right here, http://us.imdb.com/AlternateVersions?0175526, and imdb.com doesn't lie.

Slashers are so tried nowadays, that gratuitous sex and violence are requisites in order to keep the viewer awake (well, at least that's my case), so when the explicit material is removed from the film, there isn't much to hang onto! Thanks to its severe editing, Cherry Falls felt choppy and incoherent. This flick needs an uncut release more than The New Blood does. I was never hooked in, there were no characters to root for, there were many familiar sequences (drunken mother explains hidden past to curious daughter, Elm Street anyone?), and the "twist" ending was highly predictable. Murphy came off as a believable teenager, and some suspense rears its head for the finale, but I wasn’t impressed by the overall package.
My rating-2.5/5

You have eloquently described the dilemma of modern slashers... How can the films still be interesting when their inherent charms are removed?
And I dont see the quality of scripts improving soon.

The whole "MPAA" thing is so overblown. The film was NEVER that violent to begin with. The MPAA NEVER rejected the film nor did they slap it with a NC17. That was all a big lie! USA Films was unhappy with the film and so they did some reshoots on it. They still didnt like the film. Then, USA Films was about to go out of business so USA TV picked up the rights and aired it. USA films is now out of business, and the reason the film didn't go to theatres was because they couldnt afford promoting it. The DVD release of Cherry Falls is uncut, believe it or not. The original script that was online was a very early draft, and because of budget reasons, most of it was scrapped.

well this is news to me, i figured something had to be up with cherry falls causing such a fuss. like jason voorhees said, the inherent charms are removed...as for my case, i personally liked the grainy feel of the 80's. Cherry Falls, Valentine, Scream, etc are all too clean, crisp, and clear to be real horror.
but that's just me

I'm with ya on that dude, I loved Cherry Falls. I own the DVD and it has ZERO extras. It does have a second feature film on it called Terror Track though, its actually harmless fun times!

stevereno, buy it. It's an awesome, and extremely entertaining twist on the slasher genre. Easily one of my favorite recent slashers since Scream. Plus the killer actually has a sensible motive, which most recent flick's killers lack.
As for an uncut version, I want it! More sex and violence could only make this more entertaining.

Great, great, wonderful that features a killer with an actually (drumroll) good motive! I mean the killer's still a complete, evil, mean (and funny) wackjob, but on some level, you can almost sympathize with him/her. I agree with JDog about the violence. I read exactly what was cut and it was alot more sex than gore. Stevereno, I'd buy it if I were you.

I really like this film, and own the R2 version of the DVD. This version has a 6 minute interview section, which is OK, and a 4 minute 'B-roll' which frankly is a waste of space!
I wouldn't mind seeing a special edition of this, though, because it's one of those films that while it'll never be hailed as a classic, I can watch again and again.

About the "never was cut, was scrapped before filming" parts - what about the glass death stills and clips which were filmed and in right up to submission? I recall an interview with Geoffrey Wright where he talked about being forced to trim the movie... (was either Dark Side or Fango if I remember right)

well except for when he runs outta the house w/ the axe and when the massive orgy gets broken up an the stairs collapse b/c we put it in slow-mo to watch it, that was about the only entertaining parts, oh an the killer running an catchin up in high heels when every other killer runningin boots can't seem to catch up.
****************END***************
there again, i'm not really one for movies w/ the big sex scenes in it, i mean a lil romance an stuff i can take, but when ya strip down an shit..uh uh...

Cherry falls was cut...they had pictures in Fangoria and the director also said he was forced to trim it... I think the trailer had some scenes cut from the movie also...
My fave actor Michael Biehn was in this too..

I thought it wasnt that bad of a film, personally. Kinda thought Brittney Murphy was a tad too skanky looking for my tastes tho. (dont hit me!!!)
I own the movie on VHS, but caught the last half hour of it on Showcase the other night. I never noticed before, but when the end credits are rolling, partway through, the credits looked like they were going in reverse!!??! Was it just me, or did that really happen?

In my opinion, It was a GREAT plot line...I loved it, However It should have NEVER been made for TV.... If they weren't going to keep the Original Script they should have put it on a shelf far away til they could find a way to use the original!!!
It was a HackJob that deserved Much more of a display then USA Network!
I taped it the first time it premiered on USA and that was after I read the Script, I tell ya, I was sooooo dissapointed and wish I just stuck to the script!!

I don't get what the hell is so hot about Brittany Murphy. Now 'cause she did one retarded-ass movie with Eminem, she's getting all this recognition. I don't know, something about her is pretty jarring. She usually plays her parts very strangely and I don't know if she overacts or what, but if you look very closely, her performances just ain't right in anything she does. Take Freeway into consideration for just a moment.
Anyways, I did like this movie, but I didn't think it was like amazing or anything. I've seen plenty of better slasher flicks in my day. One thing I hated was the way the end credits rolled in the opposite direction. What the hell was up with that thing? I'm sure the producers or whoever were trying to make it be like a waterfall, but I don't think it worked. Just stupid, IMO. But, like I said, the movie is good. Check it out.

I enjoyed this movie because the killer is really violent and he doesn't mess around.
