K, I'm interested to see what my fellow schmoes think of this movie.
Personally, I've always loved it, and it just gets better with every viewing (I love it even more when I'm a little looped!). I think it's very underrated, and I love the tone Phillipe Mora lends to it. VERY dark.
Thoughts?

I saw bits and pieces of this flick years ago on MonsterVision. It seemed harmless enough. I've actually been thinking of picking it up, which I'm assuming would be a wise purchasing decision. I've never seen anyone bash it.

Just finished seeing this fright flick last night...

Main reason I rented it was because Tom "Fright Night" Holland wrote it, so that got me preatty interested. It was directed by Phillip Mora the guy who directed to other transformation flicks..better know as Howling parts II and III. I guess this flick here was were this director got his training wheels as a filmaker cause this flicks not entirely perfect...

Some people (like me) get the impression that this films about a teenager turning into a were wolf..but in reality its not. Its not really explained what he turns into, what I got from it is that he turned into some sort of giant bug creature...anyhows this film wasnt all that bad. Had some silly moments and the monster fx werent all that hot, but overall its an enjoyable monster film, average but entertaining.

It starts out allright, with lots of atmosphere ("the fogs really rolling in isnt it?") and a cool opening sequence where a woman gets raped by some sort of monster, cut to 17 years later then we get some cool dream sequences in a spooky looking house with some sort of creature trying to escape from a cellar...then we get some cool killings, filled with blood and gore...the beast within wants to get out!

But in the end the transformation itself was a bit of a let down. Gotta remember that this was filmed in 1982, so I expected the make up fx to be kinda crappy, but ultimately the monster just looked like a guy with a huge head the size of a television set wich didnt look so scary in my opinion.

But putting those little squabbles aside..the movie was preatty well acted..and the music scores excellent! This is the type of film in wich you gotta ignore the fx, cause they were so limited and get more into the story and the acting wich in my opinion were preatty good. Paul Clemens did a preatty good job as Michael the kid with the beast within...

Whatcha guys think of this 80s horror flick?

spacemonkey,
I started a thread on this movie a couple of months ago and didn't get too many responses...
I actually REALLY like this film and think it is really underrated and is overlooked TOO often. The film has great performances, a dark atmosphere and, as you mentioned, a great soundtrack. As far as the FX go, I thought they were pretty good for thye time. Some might find them silly, but I happen to think they're pretty friggin' freaky.
Phillipe Mora also did COMMUNION, the highly effective alien abduction story based on the novel by Whitley Streiber.

Think I'm going to merge these thread together.

whoa, thats cool I didnt know you could do a merge on threads...cool little tool you got there...

So yeah...I dug this flick, its strength in my opinion lies in its preformances, atmosphere and gore...sorry I hadnt posted before..but I hadnt seen the flick yet.. I shoulda done a search..sorry dude, thats why we got cool mods like yourself! :D

I was reading in a werewolf book that the character transforms into a Were-Cicada. I should really check this out.
