i have been a fan of adrien brody for a long time (most recognized for ritchie in summer of sam). he is simply wonderful. the other day i saw the pianist, and i was reminded again, of why i like him so much. he is majorly underrated, and i hope he gets recognition for the pianist!

For some reason I've never been big on the guy. The funny thing is I really can't tell you why, he just comes off funny to me.

You guys liked him in Summer Of Sam? Well you're gonna love him in Oxygen (1999, 8/10). Here's the premise from IMDB, and for the love of the Lord, please don't listen to the reviewer. Just see the movie alone for Brody's creepy, yet very cool performance:

A masochistic cop (Maura Tierney), who hides her prediliction from her cop husband (Terry Kinney), gets involved in pursuing a kidnapper nicknamed Harry for Harry Houdini (Adrien Brody), who has kidnapped a rich woman (Laila Robins) and has buried her somewhere in Manhattan while demanding a ransom from her tycoon husband (James Naughton). Failure to pay the ransom within 24 hours will lead the kidnapper to abandoning the woman. In fact, the kidnapping ultimately is shown to just be a front for a cat and mouse game with the female cop.

You should, he's very, very good in that film, esp. in his scenes with Maura Tierney. I'd only ever seen him in "The Thin Red Line" (he doesn't even have any lines), but after his Oscar win I started catching up with his main body of work. I haven't seen him give a bad performance yet. He was particularly good in "Affair of the Necklace" as well.

I find it somewhat amusing that since "The Pianist" he's become something of an unlikely sex symbol (and, more recently, clothing model). Though not handsome in the classical sense, hell...I'd give him one... ;)

Ooh, I can't share my love for Adrien Brody enough. After seeing The Pianist, I immediately went out and saw Liberty Heights, Bread and Roses, Restaurant and the Affair of the Necklace. Up next is Oxygen, but I have yet to become disenchanted with him. In interviews he is well-spoken, funny and cute...in movies he is honest, relateable and dead sexy.

Dammit, Annie, you would have to go and post a picture like that of him on this thread. He's just gone up five points on the Shag-ability Scale.

Now I'm not going to be able to get to sleep... ;)

I know it...rather frightening how much a mere picture can do for this guy. Whenever attentions start to fade, all one needs to do is take a look at a good picture and it all comes flooding back.

Talented young actor, which i think deserved the oscar for best actor in The Pianist-(8.5/10) he carries himself to the full extent, can't wait to see what he'll do next!

This may be off-topic, but I've been thinking of joining the IMdB message boards, so I spent the morning scanning some of their forums. And I must say, you definitely meet a better class of film fan here at JoBlo.

I was browsing IMdB's celeb chat forum, and found three (count 'em, three) threads discussing the size of Adrien Brody's nose, and how this makes him unattractive. Some of the comments were anti-semetic, something I can't stand. (Example: One protagonist stated she'd like to date Adrien during the hot summer because she'd always have plenty of shade. Another accused his fans of having a "Hebrew fetish".) I don't think prejudiced sentiments like these would be tolerated on these boards. One thread started to discuss "The Pianist", but quickly descended into the usual off-colour comments. Many other celebs didn't fare much better. Yeuk...I don't think I'll bother joining.

Back on topic: Annie - is "Bread and Roses" any good? I'd like to see if I can find it down here. Ta.

It is pretty good. Not brilliant, but it's got a very original plot, cool characters, and tells a compelling little story.

I recommend it.

that stinks!
i think his big nose is part of why i think he's attractive. i have this thing for big noses....don't ask!

but thats dumb! his nose makes him unique within hollywood and i love it!
