I'm not sure if it counts as a horror, but Brotherhood of the Wolf is really good.

Deep in the Woods is a cool, stylish French slasher. Man Bites Dog is French as well, if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure what the plot concerns, but it’s been said to have influenced Blair Witch. And Brotherhood of the Wolf is an entertaining ride.
PS-The Foreign Horror forum could use some traffic right about now.

BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLF and CRIMSON RIVERS are both REALLY great films. The DVDs have subtitles...in fact, MOST DVDs have the original language with optional subtitles...which DVDs are you watching? MAN, I hate dubbed movies.
And moving to FOREIGN...say count, when are you gonna join us as a mod? :)

Oops! I checked the IMDb, and you're absolutely right. It's a Belgian production.
Crumb, I'm still waiting for Arrow to accept applications for the position of Horror Reviews moderator.
HINT! HINT!

I just rented Brother Hood of the wolfs. I have yet to see it. But I couldn't find it on dvd so I had to rent it on VHS. Anyone know what it's like on VHS?

The VHS is dubbed. This will marginally taint the film for you, so you may want to hold out on watching it until you can grab the DVD (if I had known any better, I would've). Of course, you've already rented it, so you may as well watch it. It's up to you.

France has not really the horror genre culture, not like Italy.
I think u have not more than 30 french horror movies and it is sad because it is my mother tongue but I am not french I am a belgian, do not confound please !
U have : Jeux D'enfant, Les Doigts D'Orlac, Les Diaboliques, La Belle et La Bête, The Crimons River ( aka Les Rivières Pourpres )
Six Pack ( a very bad thriller !! )
Try Jean Rolin in the IMDB I think he directed some horror movies just like Tourneur.

Try these:
"Grapes of Death" and "Living Dead Girl." Usually recognized as the best films Jean Rollin directed. The DVDs are nice, in particular "Grapes," and the dialogue is in the original French language, just as you wanted.

To ICP RULZ :
I can't use accents very easily because it is an azerty french keyboard so I don't have any problem and don't forget I live in Belgium.
Est - ce que le français est ta langue maternelle ?

I live in Braine L'Alleud ( South of Belgium ) and I have always lived there.
None of my friends really likes the horror genre like me.
Don't take it bad but your french is .... not as good as my german.

The VHS version of Brotherhood of the Wolf also omits a 10 or so minute subplot (about a book) which is another reason to skip it ;)
A couple of great old french horror movies are Les Diaboliques (1955), featuring the obvious inspiration for Columbo! :) and remade badly in 1996 as Diabolique; and Les Yeux Sans Visage aka Eyes Without a Face (1959), which was something of an inspiration for Face/Off ;)
More recently, not particularly scary but fun in a Buffy kind of way is Bloody Mallory - good luck finding it on DVD though! :)

try LES YEUX SANS VISAGE (eyes without a face) by Georges Franju a pure masterpiece.
Or maybe LES DIABOLIQUE by Henry Georges Clouzot, a great film too!

Not really horror, but Delicatessen was a great film. More of a black comedy with a bit of sinster viciousness thrown in.

The director of Delicatessen was the same guy of Amelie Poulain ( just info )
