Hey all, what do you think about so many sequels out there that don't use numbers in their titles? Such as Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare, instead of A Nightmare on Elm Street 6, or Halloween: Resurrection, instead of Halloween 8? Personally, I can't stand it. It seems that nowadays, no one wants to use the actual movie number in their titles! What about people 20 years from now, just discovering these movies? They'll have a hell of a time watching them in chronological order...

Dunno maybe by calling it Halloween 8 make it sound old and tired. Calling it by a name makes it sound fresh and new. Your last point is a good one how the hell will new people know what order to watch em in !

I like the idea of just the subtitle and no number. I wish more sequels would adopt it. Titles are important in selling a movie and one with a number attached shows the lack of care or creative effort on the studios part.
And to watch them in order all you need to do is look at the dates they were made on the back cover of the DVD.

When looking at a series of films in a shop or online or any where I like them to all be in the same place and preferably in order when a film like Jason Goes To Hell comes out it totaly messes this sysytem up and finding films gets very confusing and often makes very little sence. Basicly yes I agree with you driller killer

Most subtitles are ridiculous. Studios try way too hard to come up with "clever" surnames. Just slap a number on the end of the title and be done with it!

I don't really mind horror movie sequels using using subtitles, but what I don't like is how "Halloween 8" used the wrong subtitle. I liked the movie, but no one was resurrected.

Something I've noticed is that if it doesn't have as part 2 or 3 next to it. The flick usually sucks.

or, do the number then the subtitle.
cause for someone just starting on a series, it can be hard. and sometimes, maybe not for the halloweens or fridays, the year of a reissue might be there and not of the release of the movie. i've seen that happen.

One thing I really did not like was at the opening credits of NOES 5, it just says A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child, even though the film does indeed have a number in its title on the video box, poster art, and basically everywhere else.

Hey teenkiller, I'm just curious. How come you always ressurect threads from a hundred years ago??

Speaking on teenkiller's behalf, why create another waste of a thread when you can just bump on an old one? Anyways, I think that if sequels don't want to use numbers at the end, they should inject them into the titles. Case in point: HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION; it could have been HALL8WEEN: RESURRECTION -- I don't think anyone would have minded. I like how JASON X was clever by using "X" as the symbol for 10, as well as "Jason Modified." I dunno what I'm saying...nevermind me...
