Has anyone noticed how some films start out promising, only to lose it by the end? I'm speaking of The Mothman Prophecies in particular, but I could make the same complaint about many other films. The first 2/3 of Mothman were riveting and had me on the edge of my seat. The film was very atmospheric and creepy, and I found myself waiting breathlessly to see what happened next. Then, IMO, the film gradually started to lose steam over the final 1/3, culminating in an ending that was like something out of a 70s disaster movie. Why is it so difficult for a director to maintain tension for an entire film ? I was almost ready to declare Mothman one of my top films of the year, and ended up merely describing it as a pleasant surprise. Have any other shmoes experienced similar disappointments?
