THANK GOD!!!
I thought steveszyk(spelled wrong) and I were the only schmoes that ADORED this flick.
Isn't is amazing?

This movie was so ahead of it's time, I think it needs to be re-re-released. More fans need to get exposed to this classic. The characters, acting, dialogue, everything in it are original, dark, intelligent, sharp, and addicting.

Very glad you can't to see this. Welcome to the club.

Yeah, I can't believe how overwhelmed I was by this movie. It's a shame that the girl who played Virginia passed away. She was creepy as hell in that flick. Especially in the beginning when she attacks the mail-man.

Long live SPIDER BABY!

I'll be ordering Spider Baby within the next month or so. I enjoy an obscure oddity every once in awhile.

I've never seen Spider Baby; I'll have to make a note of that. By the way, I dont know if it compares to your movie, but I watched something for the first time last night called "Return of the Alien: The Deadly Spawn" or just "The Deadly Spawn", this movie made my skin crawl, and that's unusual for me.

MINOR SPOILERS

Well, I finally got my hands on a copy of Spider Baby and I was very pleased with it. It’s a very quirky, unorthodox tale that does a subtle, effective job of addressing the public’s perception of those with disabilities, whether they are mentally or physically handicapped. The only character who truly cares about the children and isn’t consumed by greed is Bruno, played enthusiastically by Lon Chaney. His performance stands out. He remains subdued in situations where he could have went over-the-top. This keeps Bruno on a realistic, sympathetic level. His eventual descent into paranoia is believable and doesn’t feel rushed or hurried. Sid Haig goes nuts as Ralph. He just dives right in and enjoys imitating an infant. I got attached to the Merrye sisters as well. Razorblade, how/when did Jill Banner pass away? She was solid in her role and quite the hottie, I might add. I wouldn’t be apprehensive about letting her “sting” me.

Peter and “the pretty lady” are surprisingly likeable, which is actually problematic. During the climax, I wasn’t sure about who I was supposed to be rooting for. They contend with each other, but I want everyone to come out victorious. Obviously, my wish wasn’t granted. Another complaint I have has to do with the lackluster second act. As all of the characters rummaged around in the house at night, I felt a monotonous lull deadening the pace. Not much takes place other than Schlocker exploring his surroundings. This is a minor gripe, though, as things pick up as soon as they trailed off.

The conclusion was heartbreaking, but it was an excellent way to wrap everything up. Despite the final twist being fairly predictable, it fell in line with the campy mood of the rest of the film. “Dracula, Frankenstein, and even the Mummy, are sure to end up in somebody’s tummy!”

My rating-4/5

I'm not sure why, but this flick gives me the creeps. Most of the movie is pretty campy, but a few scenes gave me some of the "honest-to-God" willies.

My two favorite scenes are when Ralph spills out of the car and when you first see Virginia going after the post man.

I actually have to thank Horror Host Zacherly for introducing me to this flick. About a year ago I picked up an old chunk of shit VHS tape from a garage sale called Horrible Horror. Pretty much it just showcased a lot of various b-rated flicks. One of them was Spider Baby. I watched it shortly before starting this topic and decided to break down and rent this flick.

This is now one of my all time favorite movies.

Here's the info from IMDB (I'm only going to ASSUME that it's correct.)

After missing a chance to check out this flick on the big screen at the Andy Warhol museum a few years back I finally got my chance on video. I was impressed with the rather risque stuff they got in there for the time it was released. The ear and the hints of incest in particular. Chaney was great as the compassionate Bruno. Can anyone reccomend some other decent Lon Chaney Jr performances. I've only seen Spider Baby and of course, the Wolf Man.
