So, I got Scooby Doo from Netflix the other day for my son (he's three) and I was actually kind of looking forward to it. I'm a big fan of the cartoon and I love Matthew Lillard. Well, it was really really bad. My son was not ammused either. Even trusty Lillard couldnt save it, although his Shaggy impersonation was dead on most of the time. He looked like he was really having a good time.
I don't know exactly what I expected. I mean, it really did deliver pretty much exactly what the cartoon did ( not so mean villains, silly chases, lots of 'yoiks', and rediculous ending) but I've come to the conclusion it really was meant just for kids. Maybe it just didnt need to be made.
Truly awful. 3/10 (strictly for Lillard and pretty colors!)

Yeah, it IS pretty bad...but its worth watching just for Matthew Lillard and the surprise guest star.
Like you said, this flick was primarily targeted to the kiddies.

As a 15 year old, I thought (as did some of my friends) that while it wasn't well made, etc., that it was pretty damn entertaining, and captured the spirit of the show (one of my favorite cartoons from when I was younger) perfectly. It was often funny and it was visually gorgeous. Fun Times... ***/****

Well movie adaptations go either the traditional way or go cutting edge. I think, Scooby Doo went a little of both. I myself grew up watching the cartoons. When Scrappy Doo got introduced & the chracters got narrowed down to just Shaggy & Scoobs, the cartoon to me was no longer fun to watch. Matthew Lillard is the reason to watch cause HE IS dead on as character. Freddie Prinze Jr? Well who would have been an alternative choice? He is scary lookin w/ blonde hair though. And I love Sarah. But did she try NOT to imitate her Buffy character? And the actress that played Velma was'nt so bad either. I just hope that in the sequel will have Scooby Dum!!! Yes, Scooby Dum! Dum DUM DUM, A Cluuuueee........:D

I never understood the appeal of the TV show. There's just something uncomfortable about a talking dog, a "pot" seller who's been using his own supply, a creepy blonde guy who looked my grandpa in his younger years, and the shifty-eyed females. I didn't know what to expect seeing the movie, and got what the show was like, a souless, pointless show about nothing. But what can I say when the best part of a movie is Matthew Lilard? It says a lot about the quality

College students now watch it mostly to laugh at it. It was so badly and hilariously ineptly animated, scripted, and acted, people fall in love with it. It's like the cartoon Ed Wood.
