attention all southern california troma fans!!!
in two weeks troma is coming to los angeles! on thursday, january 30th, lloyd kaufman and the troma team are appearing in westwood at the best buy on weyburn. starting at 6pm, mr. kaufman will be meeting/greeting fans and signing all sorts of troma-related merchandise. unfortunately i cannot make it to this, as i will be working, but i will definitely be there for...
midnight screenings of "citizen toxie: the toxic avenger part 4" friday and saturday (jan. 31 and feb. 1) at the laemmle fairfax 3! lloyd kaufman will be there both nights to introduce the movie, and having seen it before i can guarantee that if you like cheesy, crazy, absurd, raunchy, gross-out fun this is the movie for you! i will absolutely be there one of those nights, and i cannot wait!
for more information, check out this page from troma.com (http://troma.com/news2/appearences/appear/content.html). be a sport and come visit tromaville as it makes a pit stop in the city of angels. be there or be square, suckers!

It makes me wish I didn't live on the other side of the country. It's a little difficult to go across the country when you've got class to attend and a job to work at. *sighs and wishes that some horror events would happen around here*

*sees that somebody has replied to this thread and runs a victory lap around the room*
hey, one of the coolest horror events around, the chiller convention, is way the hell out in new jersey, so you're not the only one's that's screwed in that department. as opposed to getting screwed in some other department, knowwhatimeanwinkwinknudgenudgesaynomore.
*thinks she needs to get her mind out of the damn gutter and stop watching those monty python dvds she got for xmas*

:D :D :p :p ;) ;) :o :o I love your sense of humor Gretchen, you put a smile on my face.
Anyway, do you know where I could find info on the NJ convention? It'd only be a 8-10 hour drive from where I live, and might be doable(must... not... make... comment).

i believe you can get the info on chiller at www.chillertheatre.com. plus, if you put "chiller convention" into google, you get a bunch of links to pages where people have posted pics they've taken there so you get a good idea of what it's like.
Thanks alot! Now, if I can just get some time off of work and school...

Damn I wish I could go...
I met lloyd at the comic con last year and he just struck up conversation with me and some guy who was standing next to me who turns out to be a movie critic that is quoted on on the Terror Firmer Dvd. He was a super nice guy and then drew poop and bats on my Terror FIrmer dvd and signed it. *sigh* I love troma.

Ok,I love Troma films. They are awsome. I have seen lots of there stuff but my favourite Troma film has gotta be "Surf Nazis Must Die!!". I just rented it again for like the 3rd or 4th time. I really wish I could go,but I live up here in Vancouver an it is always boring as hell over here. If anyone does go,they have gotta come back here and do a full 20 page report.:D
Peace

bowieee - lloyd is so cool like that. since i go to every troma event in los angeles and correspond with him via email, when he sees me he always says "gretchen!" and gives me a big hug and talks and talks about whatever. he always pulls other people into the coversation, and it's like one big happy fan family.
ICP RULZ - "surf nazis must die" was the first troma film i saw. *sigh* memories... anyway, if you want i'll definitely give a full report next week. should be a blast!

ICP RULZ - i'll write it up asap. i don't think i'll be taking pictures, though. however, check troma.com for pics 'cause they'll post snaps that fans took at events.
Kaos - ahh, what a cutie-patootie. thanks a million for the bump, 'cause to be honest, i was getting a bad back from all that bumping (must...resist...urge...to...be...lewd...argh!!!)

ok, so for anyone who cares here's a recap of last night's events. i might include some stuff you're not interested in, but i'm just trying to fit everything in.
so, we (me, my friend, and my mother - yes, she likes troma movies, people!) arrive at the laemmle fairfax 3 around 10pm. we buy the tickets, and the girl at the counter is less than interested in questions i have regarding the event (hey, i used to work behind a register to, but i at least tried to know what the fuck was going on at my place of employment). anyway, since we're early, we head down to canter's (historic los angeles deli) for some dessert and conversation.
we leave the deli at around eleven to hang in front of the theater. then, i see a little doddering guy trying to feed a meter across the street and realize he's lloyd kaufman. so i leave my mom and friend talking as i go to greet him. he gives me a big hello and promptly introduces me to eli roth (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Roth,+Eli), the man who made the soon to be released horror flick "cabin fever" (http://www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=13425). having heard of this movie, i asked him some questions and he was more than happy to start shuckin' and jivin' about it. he said he set out to make a "hardcore horror movie like 'evil dead'" and such, and he seemed like a pretty cool guy. he said that lion's gate should be starting an adversiting campaign soon, and he appreciates all the support the movie has gotten at festivals and on the internet.
so after this exchange i go to find lloyd to get him to sign my "toxic avenger 3" dvd. he's running around with a dv camera shooting everything, and got me in a shot, much to my chagrin. he then stopped to sign my dvd ("toxie loves gretchen, as do i. love, lloyd kaufman"). he then asks me questions about my life (work, school, etc.) and upon learning i'm 22 said "great! now i can hit on you! or maybe i shouldn't, since your mom's here." he then reached into a bag he was carrying and gave me the tromillenium edition dvd of "chopper chicks in zombie town." what a guy, huh?
it's still not time for the movie yet, so my friend and mom and i are just standing outside talking when a movie lets out and folks start coming through the front doors. and who do i see coming out? none other than john c. reilly (don't know who he is? (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Reilly,+John+C.) shame on you.) i quietly point him out to my mom and friend, and since we're all huge fans we all titter and buzz over the sighting. we even stare at him as he gets into his car across the street and drives off. a lovely cherry on top of the sundae, i think.
anyway, we finally head into the theater and they are a lot less people attending than i had hoped (maybe 40 total). when i was at the "citizen toxie" premiere last year it was packed, but i suppose it was because it was the premiere. anyway, lloyd and company (toxie, kabukiman, and count smokula (http://www.countsmokula.com/)) enter to start the festivities. first, count smokula sings his toxic avenger song, which is fine, but he then goes on to sing 2 more songs, and i really cease to enjoy his music after the first ditty. then, q&a time. bits of knowledge gained from this:
- they are still filming "tales from the crapper"
- lloyd's next book, "make your own damn movie," to hit bookstores next month
- their next project is indeed going to be the zombie/fast-food industry satire "poultrygeist," of which they've finished a first draft
- the "toxic crusaders" cartoon show episodes probably won't make it to dvd, and the most you'll get is the stuff in the tox box
- they are trying to make a box set of "class of nuke 'em high," but have yet to come up with a catchy name and want fans to submit suggestions via the website (http://www.troma.com)
- lloyd gave a dvd to everyone who asked a question
- some chick suggested a death scene that involves "castration by super-sander" (that made even me cringe)
then, the movie started and even though the audience wasn't huge they really enjoyed the movie, myself included. it ended at about 2:45am, and since we're all incredible nerds, me/my friend/mom ran back to our homes and hopped into our beds. the end.
Damn, you're lucky! Wish I had been there. *sniff* Oh well, I'm glad you had a good time. Other then Smokula overdoing it, it sounded like a blast.

i love living in a big city for this very reason - cool shit happens here (well, plain old shit happens too, but let's focus on the good stuff for now). anyway, one thing i forgot is that somebody asked about another kabukiman movie, and lloyd said that a company in japan wants to make one and he'll serve as a consultant on it.
