I dunno, i havent heard anyone mention this movie and most dont even mention it in the Top 5 Spacey films. I saw the movie again on a movie channel recently and i think the film has so many great aspects. The dialouge is amazing and the acting is even better. I give it an 8.5/10.. maybe a lot dont agree with me?

Yes. Definitely underrated. I was blown away by it. I've been critical of Spacey here before, and I've praised him here before, as well. That boy is maddeningly inconsistent.

He never, ever tipped his hand in this role. He was just magic in his scenes w/ Bridges. (Does anyone know if Bridges was specifically picked for this role, because of the similar-to-Kevin's-role he played in Starman, or was just a serendipitous coincidence?) Those two gave similarly arresting performances in roles that would have been overplayed by a lesser actor.

When he takes the one girl who writes "I have no home." back with him... Goddamn, how can you resist that?

I still find myself tempted to eat a banana whole. Just once.

I understand people admiring this flick, but then I didn't get on with it that well, because I thought it had a fairly intriguing premise, but basically worked with clichés and a predictable storyline. I liked the cinematography and Spacey and Bridges were right on (dunno about Bridges' role, but Spacey's character was supposed to be played by Will Smith in the first place), but overall it felt like STARMAN FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST and thus wasn't very inspiring, moving or original.

It was good, not great. I didnt like the stereotypical 'loonies' in the asylum. They have all been done before and done better. I wish they hadnt focused so much time on them. His 'healing' capabilities over the other 'insane' characters was just not fresh.

Also, I understand that the end was purposely vague but I choose to believe

***SPoiler Alert****

that Spacey was actually an alien and that he had inhabited the body of his friend to save his life, as his friend became catatonic after the shock of seeing his slaughtered family. While he was inhabiting him he could at least see to it that his friend was gotten to some place that could give him sufficient help. The crisscross of memories would also be believable since his friend's brain was still alive in there. I don't know, what does everybody else think?

Score...6/10 for the scenes NOT in the asylum.

The Commericals made it look weak so when I finnaly saw it I had very low expectations. Well it changed that fast. I was blown away by this movie. Got a much smaller audience then it deserved.

I actually went out and bought the DVD before seeing the film, I had that much riding on the film I guess, so to speak...

Plus I'm a sucker for alternate endings...

I just thought the film was perhaps a tad bit rushed, and the story was an excellent concept, just put together very weak. It was as if they had thought of a brilliant concept, and just put shit around the edges and told us it was frosting.

Saw the trailer and caught a bit of the pre-release hype but was a little disappointed if im totally honest. It wasn't a bad film but much like the replies already posted i didnt think it brought anything new to the table.
On the plus side there was some good acting, some nice camera work and kudos for not opting for the easy ending. A

2/3rds of this movie were excellent. I thought that it was a COMPLETELY wrong turn to start to have us guessing whether he was an alien or not, after we had all decided that he definately was. I completely enjoyed him as an alien, and when he started to get hypnotized, I started to hate this movie.

6/10 or B-

first 2/3rds of it was an A.

I love how the ending was ambigous and let's you ponder and come up with your own conclusions. Plus, ofcoarse, Spacey and Bridges are phenomenal!
9/10

I wasn't a fan of this movie. I thought it was a bit incoherent and cheesy. Kevin Spacey was good, but he is good in everything. Overall a movie I don't have any interest in seeing again.

Same here. I found it to be rather uninspiring, and yes, Bridges and Spacey were fabulous...but...without a solid script, you ain't got no picture.
