They're both superior vampire flicks. Shadow of the Vampire is a quirky, engrossing tale that boasts excellent performances from Malkovich and Dafoe. The film is low on tension and nail-biting suspense, but it doesn’t want to frighten you. It just wants to interest you, get a few laughs out of you, and first and foremost, entertain you. It succeeds on all accounts. Vampires kicks ass. Plain and simple. Many would say that Carpenter faltered in the 90’s, but he proves his directorial talents here and even more so on In the Mouth of Madness. James Woods plays a loveable badass and Sheryl Lee is one sexy vampire. Valek kicks ass, too. See? It all kicks ass! And I should mention the impressive gore. Being “corrupted” by cinematic violence has never been more enjoyable!

When I first saw Shadow of the Vampire at the theatre, I was in awe. It is an incredibly directed film with excellent performances by Dafoe, Malkovich, Cary Elwes, Udo Kier, and Catherine McCormack. J.C.'s Vampires on the other hand, did not amuse me a single bit. I saw it at the theatre, but that didn't change the experience for me. It was one of the worst vampire movies I've ever seen.

Klownzilla, why did you loathe Vampires? Just curious.
