View Full Version : Mother's Day anyone?
Pretty twisted flick. Kind of like TCM with a mom in the lead. Pretty cool when one of the baddies gets killed by having drano shoved down his throat.

i just have to say that i truly hated this movie like no other, it's one of the worst ive ever see, maybe its because im a big wuss and doesnt like to see people get raped on a movie screen, or maybe because it just sucks too much to see. bleh

I didn't like this one very much. It isn't the worst movie I've ever seen, even it sucks.

Ok, not to come across as a psycho here, but I LOVE Mother's Day...
I have a copy of it on tape.
It's a little hard to watch the first time through, due to the violence bestowed upon those poor girls, but after awhile, I just appreciate the unintentional humor in the film.
I think it's a blast....

I love this movie, its a great example of 80s horror and in the vein of Friday 13th - it's never over until the credits roll.

This movie was pretty bizarre, wasn`t it made by some of the Troma folk?
The scenes where Mom makes the girls act out weird scenes in costumes were REALLY bizarre.
I have to say there was one real jump-out-of-your-seat moment in this movie - when the girls are in their sleeping bags in the woods, and suddenly the brothers pop-out of the darkness. Made me jump!

I own it, I expected a slasher but it was not that at all in fact.
The last image made me jump !!!

Elgyn -
You're SO right, that was a great scene and I also like the one where the girl was dangling out of the window in the sleeping bag!
Only 2 guys THAT stupid wouldn't have looked up and seen that, but thank God they didn't.
You know, that's actually a good point.
Those girls were FIGHTERS. They didn't just lie around whimpering... they were pretty tough and I admire that in the characters.
Different from most flicks where the stupid, defenseless girl lies crying in a corner, just waiting to be SPLICED!!!
Good call.

How'd I know that "creepy" Carrie was gonna reply to this one?!?!?! http://www.joblo.com/ubb/wink.gif
Actually, this one doesn't do too much for me. I remember seeing it on a double-bill with 'Dawn Of The Dead' years ago.
I kinda lump it together with 'Last House On The Left' and 'I Spit On Your Grave' as being more of a rape/revenge flick than an out-and-out horror flick.

Mother's Day was not made by Troma, but they did buy the rights to it a couple of years ago and now sell it. So it is distributed, but not produced by Troma.

I have this movie on order from where I work. I've never seen it. I'm sort of a "Buy sight un seen" kind of guy. Even if I hate it, I'm a collector, and I'll appreciate the fact that it's in my collection. Can't wait for it to come in!!

Walking down the horror aisle at Best Buy I got into a discussion with a cool middle aged horror fan who had seen pretty much every movie that we were looking over. He recommended Mothers Day to me so I have been debating buying it since. I probably will eventually but its not exactly high on my list. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I was listening to the commentary track on The Tox Box by Lloyd Kaufman and i found out why Troma started to Distribute Mother's Day. It was directed by Lloyd's brother Charlies Kaufman.

I finally watched my copy of Mothers Day. Its okay, its not as good as TCM and some of its sequels or Wrong Turn or The Hills Have Eyes. But its much better than The Fanglys, Blood Shed, or alot of the other killer hillbilly DTV's.
The story is pretty simple and the villians are pretty generic. The kills are few and far between. The girls that get terrorized by the baddies are pretty stupid until the last 20 mins. I found my self saying "Why dont they just do this or that." alot. These baddies are not the brightest villians ever. The girls could have easily escaped many times.
The first 15 mins. and the last 30 mins. are pretty enjoyable though. There is just a middle boring part. A few more kills would have helped alot.
2/4 stars. Its not a must see. But if you have the chance and are bored give it a shot. Its extremely low budget too.
Like alot of TROMA released flicks, the poster is the best part of the movie.

Awesome underrated movie. What people don't realize is that it's an out and out COMEDY version of Last House or I Spit. The film's genius is that it never takes itself seriously, and Ike and Addley are truly meant to be comic villains. Yeah the rape and violence can get to people, but the absurdity of just how stupid the rapists are is what adds to its appeal...:D

I've seen this movie again and I love it now. so god damn sleazy.
Also these old posts of mine so depress me. I was such a wuss!
but yeah it was made by Lloyd Kaufman's brother Charlie who supposedly runs a bakery now! woo!

Nice little revenge flick, as some have said like a cross between TCM and Last House or I Spit on Your Grave. Obviously there are some really over the top parts and the rape scenes could be tough to take for some but c'mon, there is enough intentional/unintentional comedy in it to lighten the mood (The scene where Addley falls down the hill is VERY funny!)

I can't believe they are remaking this one.
It's an odd bird- I think the comical LHOL take is about right. I will also say that "Mom" in the film has the largest nostrils I have ever seen.

If you watch it as a horror-comedy instead of outright horror, it's one of those unknown gems from the 80's like GRANDMOTHER'S HOUSE or MORTUARY.
