Without a doubt....this is my FAVORITE slasher flick from the 80's!
I loooooove the scene at the very beginning with the two girls who are actually IN A THEATRE watching a cheesy slasher flick.

Comon' MGM....release the damn thing on DVD already!!!!!!!!!

Is that the one with Carol Kane, and the guy goes... "the killer is calling from you're upstairs phone. GET OUT OF THE HOUSE!!!"

That scared me senseless, or am I thinking of a different film?

Which one was Tom Hanks in?

xoxoxo

You're melding two different flicks there girlie....
The movie with Carol Kane is 'When A Stranger Calls', and YES...it's a really scary flick (especially the first 20 minutes!)

....and Tom Hanks has a small part in 'He Knows You're Alone'.

I think the one your thinking of is "When a Stranger Calls", yeah "He Knows Your Alone" is with Tom Hanks. They are both good films in my opinion.

I found it beyond boring, two thirds into the movie I had to put it on fast forward because it was unbearable. The beginning kinda intrigued me but the rest was a big letdown. Watch out for young Hanks.

I haven't seen this one in a long long long time, but I do remember being entertained during it.

**slight spoiler**

I loved the scene where that lady's head was floating in the fish tank! That was cool! (Geez I hope I've got the right movie! lol!!) Like I said, it's been awhile. I do distinctively remember catching a young Tom Hanks in it. That was cool!

I bet Hanks is really embarrassed and never puts it on his resume! One wonders if he pays MGM a ton of cash to prevent its reissue. Probably takes up a good portion of his salary...

Seriously though, how is his performance, putting it in context with the rest of his career?

I've never seen it, Ro! Should I put it on my list, like your kiss??

He Knows you're alone is one of my all time favs too. Its one of the scariest horror films ever made. I remember seeing it the 1st time when I was a kid in the Early 80s with my sister. Tom Hanks was pretty good in it. The movie had the same kind of creepyness to it that Halloween had. I hope MGM releases it on dvd next year.

To answer your question Cyclonus, Hanks doesn't embarass himself here at all; he has what's become a cliche role, the "guy who explains why people like fear and scary movies and roller-coasters" and whatever, but he delivers all the obvious psychology pretty well. I hear he has plans to beef up his role in the upcoming sequel. I'm not saying he'll be the killer in this one...but I'm not saying he won't be either.

I like this movie a lot. The opening scene is really scary, and was completely ripped off for the intro to SCREAM 2. The leads are likeable, believable sorta folks, and the finale in the morgue is intense. The fish tank...oh yeah, the fish tank fucked me up as a kid. I saw this late, late one friday night on TV, must've been 'bout 10 years old, and man...the movie got to me. The scene leading up to "the fish tank" is well done too, the chick laying down, putting on her headphones, smokin' some reefer, listenin' to the groovy sounds of..(the knife slides up under her chin and across her throat!) AAAARRRRGGGGHHH!

This movie so completely rips off HALLOWEEN, it makes most other early 80's slashers look original. The music (very creepy repetitive piano), the Myers-like stances of the killer, the "Loomis" character...But for some reason, it's way more effective than most of it's ilk. It's a scary little movie in it's own right, if you watch it alone. In the night. In the dark....

Bring on that DVD, yeah!

does anyone know where this movie is available for rent and r they really making a sequel

A sequel? There's no way that Tom "Forrest Gump" Hanks would take a career step back by giving us a slasher sequel! This must be a mistake or something!

I love this movie! It made afraid of theatres for a LONG time! No sequel~let it be the way HALLOWEEN should have been.

CAPTAIN BLAKE

No, no, no...Guys, there ain't a chance in hell that Tom Hanks would do a sequel to this movie. That was a little joke. But you knew that...Right? As far as the idea of a sequel tarnishing our memories of the original, let's keep in mind this isn't really a full-blown classic to start with, so a sequel (bad as it would probably be) wouldn't do as much damage as those gosh darned Halloweeners did. And nobody would be stupid enough to make one anyway, 'cause there are only 12 people who ever saw the first one, and they're all here on this board.

As a slasher/giallo hardcore - fan I own it but I don't think this was a very good movie.
It was really cheesy but don't get me wrong I like my gorgonzola however I expected something else.
Tom Hanks should have **************** SPOILER ************* SPOILER ************** bitten the dust, his part was very very short.
I like the end which is predictable but I don't care.
Have noticed that the beginning where u see the police - car flashes ( lights ) looks like Naked Gun.

Ahh haaa, so this is the movie i was looking for yesterday at blockbuster, damnit, forgot the name. Thought it was "don't answer the phone" or something like that.
This was a freaky movie, and like someone said earlier, it made me afraid to be in theaters too.

Ciao

I seen parts of this movie on Encore but damn that was a while ago! I do remember that this was Tom Hanks first movie appearance. I believe the story was something along the lines of a maniac stalking girls and getting in their houses and brutally killing them. Sounds like my cup of tea. Well thats all for now GOoD JOURNEY my fellow schmoes.

I LOVE this flick! There's some totally creepy parts. I love the morgue chase. I'm also desperately hoping for a DVD release. I bet if it ever does get the remastered treatment, they'll make a huge deal about Tom Hanks being in it, regardless of how small his part is. I can see it now. Huge picture of him on the cover art and his name at the top...

Yep, that's the one. The killer had this vendetta towards young brides because his fiance ditched him for another guy. So, of course, he killed her ass.

On the same topic I hightly recomand u to watch the outstanding A Hatchet For The Honeymoon from the great Mario Bava.
This film is far superior even if I don't have to comparate these two movies because it is another genre ( giallo vs slasher )

Cheers homie! I'm not at all surprised at how many positive comments this film has received! I wasn't expecting much at all but was more than pleasantly surprised. Whilst the theme music blatantly rips off the HALLOWEEN piece I actually liked it! I mean, let's face it, the HALLOWEEN piece is a classic so something resembling it is hardly going to suck! The opening scene also must've inspired SCREAM 2. It was fantastic. I was so thankful when I realised the film the audience were watching was NOT the actual film because it sucked ha ha!

The killer was also impressive. It was a nice change to see a slasher movie where the killer is identified immediately and there's no "red herring" plot devices or a "guess the killer" scenario. He reminded me very much of the villain in THE SLUMBER PARTY MASSACRE, which wasn't a bad thing as both looked suitably crazy! The directing was well accomplished. I was pleased the stalk sequences exerted a fair bit of suspence and found certain scenes to be quite intense. The acting was generally good and TOM HANK'S "cameo" entertaining. He certainly didn't look out of place though. ;) I also dug the sub-plot revolving around the cop who had a history with the killer, and it was a nice touch finding out why that cop held a grudge.

Mmm I do not remember this one but I know I have seen it, but If I do not remember then that is not a good sign.
I like Are You In The House Alone! That chick, Kathleen Belar or however you spell it was cute. I am amazed she is still married to that dork Tomas Dolby. :D He must be good. ;)

HA HA LIKE TOTALLY!! I own OFFERINGS as well! The hardest thing is trying to decide which of these two movies rips off the score better! They both get it pretty much spot on! :D

I really like OFFERINGS also! Could it be that I like these crappy movies because my brain distinguishes the scores and relates them directly to HALLOWEEN, in turn convincing my mind that I'm really enjoying myself! You know, like association psychology?!!

I remember trying to nail this girl one time at a party and all I could hear in the background was the song "BARBIE GIRL" by a cheesy european dance group called AQUA! It's a terrible song, but whenever I hear it now I love it! :p
