It was probably a nice book something along the lines of "How to get home within a week when you stranded on a deserted Island".

Let's hope it was all of the origional prints of the film itself and in his own words 'I HAVE MADE FIRE!' Good so use that fire to burn those damn prints so nobody else has to watch this piece of crap!!
Thank you!

At the beginning of the movie, some woman was FedEx-ing some artwork or something she made. It was in the plane crash and he saved it so he could deliver it to her, so in the box was some metal art work, I think.

Miss B, Metal artwork? Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't metal heavy? Wouldn't metal SINK if placed in the middle of an ocean? Maybe I'm stupid here, but another thing.. it was a SMALL box. Like 'sweater' type box. Metal artwork... I'm sorry, not plausible to me.

I don't think that we are supposed to know what was in the box. It was just a means for his survival... one thing that he had to do before he died.

I just finished watching the movie and I too had no clue what was in the box! However I did find a webpage that shows a whole symbolical theme for the whole movie (Yes it even explanes the box). If you all are curious you should check out the page it is:

I hope this puts all your troubled minds at ease. And I hate do disappoint veers and all you others with your interesting insights but it's not oscar statuettes, his wifes head, or the book on how to survive on an island (he didn't open the package so he couldn't read the book) although I would have liked to see any of those in the film.

Maybe I just skipped through something, but I didn't see anything that said what was in the box. Or maybe I'm just too sleepy this morning to actually see something clearly, I dunno.

If you want to find out what was in the box, and happen to have the DVD, do this :

Insert the second disc from the 2-disc set and then select 'Video and Stills Gallery' from the main menu. Once there, highlight the 'Raft Escape' menu entry and hit the 'Left' arrow key on your remote control.

A winged symbol will appear on the screen. Press 'Enter' now and in an audio clip director Robert Zemeckis will reveal to you the contents of the unopened FedEx package that Chuck had been cherishing unopened for all those years.
