what movies do you guys think have very good (or very bad!) casting of parent and child roles? (or any family members, really...) as in, the actors actually "look" like they could be father and son, or the actors relate to each other as if they were mother and daughter, etc...

or, what pairings would you like to see?

possibility: i always thought leelee sobiesky and helen hunt could play mother and daughter. they definitely look alike.

good: i thought mel gibson and joaquin phoenix in "signs" was pretty good; they look like they could be brothers.

not so good- "practical magic". nicole kidman and sandra bullock sisters? i didn't really buy it...

good: Robert DeNiro and James Franco in City by the Sea
Jodie Foster and Kristen Stewart in Panic Room
Kim Catrall and Britney Spears in Crossroads
I will think of some more later.

i agree with mel gibson and joaquin phoenix. also, a good pairing was kyra sedgwick and julia roberts in something to talk about...they both have those lips...and i am waiting for michael madsen, james gandolfini and tom sizemore to be brothers in a movie, cause they all remind me of the other.

Possibility: Julia Roberts and Monica Potter could play sisters, they look exactly alike.

Good: Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie in Carrie. Edward Norton and Edward Furlong in American History X

Bad: I agree with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock, if you're going to cast someone as Nicole's sister try Naomi Watts instead.
Also, I didn't really buy Linda Hamilton as Edward Furlong's mother in T2

Jessie Royce Landis (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Landis,%20Jessie%20Royce) playing Cary Grant's (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Grant,%20Cary) mother  in North By Northwest.

The two actors who played Calogero in A Bronx Tale looked quite like De Niro.

I know people are going to laugh when I say this but: Hayden Christiansen and Mark Hammil. At certain points during AOTC you can 'see' how Mark Hammil could eventually be Hayden's son. There are a lot of facial similarities.

BAD:

Macaulay Culkin and Ted Danson as father and son in 'Getting Even with Dad'.

Martin Short as Mary Steenburgen and Charles Grodin's son in 'Clifford'.

GOOD:

Aaron Eckhart and Thomas Jane as brothers in 'Molly' and also in 'Thursday'.

Jake and Maggie Ghlyenhaal as brother and sister in Donnie Darko. ;)

GOOD:

Def. agree with Gibson and Phoenix in Signs :)
Jake Gyllenhaal and Mary McDonnell as son and mother in Donnie Darko especially, but the whole family has a great chemistry
Laura Linney, Mark Ruffalo and Kieran Culkin in You Can Count ON Me

POSSIBLE:
I think Matt Damon and Leo DiCaprio look similar and could make good bros - maybe that's just me :D

I can't really tell the difference between Jessica Biel, Jennifer Sky and Maggie Gyllenhaal
